View Full Version : Does anyone know about RCA cd Burner?
jonman 02-14-2006, 03:30 AM I need some help reaching a decision. Has anyone have any input, good or bad about RCA CD recorder? I do not know the model number but it is a 2 disc player\recorder. I don't mean to sound redundunt, nut I am not sure where to post this so I posted in 2 forums.
jonman 02-14-2006, 07:24 AM nobody?
shrinkboy 02-14-2006, 11:04 AM what are you trying to decide about? whether to go with the RCA or go with another mfr.? or whether to get one at all, or whether there is one particular RCA model to look for over another, or....
see what i mean?
but, i'll go ahead and take a shot at your question: the answer is, as it always has been, 47.....
jonman 02-14-2006, 01:50 PM I was speaking just in genera,l is Rca cd players\recorders depenable, and will a cd recorder on an RCA playback on most Cdp's and will RCA's play cdr's from other brand recorders? I am trying to decide if I should go for the RCA or seek something else within my limited budget. I presently am using a zenith DVD player, and on dvrs over 50 minutes or so there is a tendency towards skipping on the last 20 0r 30 minutes. I have read some posting here on this forum that confirms this is common. Thus, I am seeking alternatives to the DVD play. Thanks for your answer. Sorry I was not clearer on my first posting
shrinkboy 02-14-2006, 05:44 PM with a stand alone cd-r, you'll wanna look at marantz, pioneer, sony, teac. gotta spend a little dough, but you can get em all day long on the auction site. i'd steer clear of the RCA brand....i have a marantz cdr 700 that will play any kind of disk i put in, though not mp3, which i dont' record anyway. i have had very satisfying results transferring vinyl and tape to cd's.....mine uses only 'music' disks, will not use data blanks....

Could you give me a rough estimate how little dough would be your educated guess? I am attracted to the recording options also.
shrinkboy 02-15-2006, 07:24 AM well, i got mine in a thrift shop for $29 ; - )> but go cruise the auction site and see what they go for. or keep scoutin' the thrifts....
Sandy G 02-15-2006, 07:31 AM Yeah, I'd steer clear of the "RCA" brand now...IMHO, they are little better than Yorx, & the no-name brands you see at drug stores.. Gen Sarnoff must be spinning in his grave...-Sandy G.
retrokeeper 02-15-2006, 08:29 AM I've had an RCA stand-alone dual-tray cd recorder now for about a year or so,works just fine, have burned many cd's from my reel to reel/cassette/8-track/record collection. It has the capability to burn cd to cd at 4x,so that comes in handy sometimes.I bought it at Radio Shack while it was on closeout sale, payed $169 for it.Don't have a model number for you, sorry.
I did find another audio cd burner in a thrift store,a real piece of crap, some off-off-off brand name, hard to figure out how to record on it,does not work great for the $10 bucks I payed for it....Rob
mg196 02-15-2006, 08:39 AM Jonman, I am wondering what you intend to use it for, CD2CD or LP2CD.
As for your DVD burner, it sounds like it's a pretty cheap one (actually, I have no idea). Well, then again, I'd never buy a Zenith burner regardless of price.
Let us know what your intended uses are and we may have better suggestions.
jonman 02-16-2006, 04:13 AM [QUOTE=mg196]Jonman, I am wondering what you intend to use it for, CD2CD or LP2CD.
My intended use is mainly for playback, as I have a burner program (Roxio)in my computer and many large boxset type collections made by a friend. I have been having trouble getting my current players to read them. I would also liem to experiment with transferiring Casettes and vinyl. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks for your input.

THanks for your insight Retrokeeper. I think the one you have is the same one. THis one is also at Radio Shack as a close out item. The price had been lowered since you bought yours, I think the store is phasing out of the Radio Shack franchise. It was reduced down to $69.00. My original goal was to get a player that could read some cdr's. I tried Wal-Mart first (whata joke) and Radio Shach is right in front of Wallmart. It is encourging to hear yoors is doing a god job for you. Thanks alot for you input. If I need some help, is ok to PM you for advice?
retrokeeper 02-16-2006, 10:24 AM Sure Jonman, let me know if you have any questions, the recorder pretty staightforward to use.I use mine to do what I stated earlier, and it has done well for me.I actully have 2 audio CD burners, the RCA and a Teac. Both have worked well, and both look identical in control layout. They have recorded on the CD ok,haven't really tried audio CD-RW yet,but all burned audio CD-R have played well. Some pre-recorded commercial CD's have not wanted to play in them though, but I suspect that it's the copyguard crap they industry is using now to hinder consumers. jonman 02-16-2006, 11:16 AM Thanks Retroman, It is good to know I will have a support line out there if I need it, The only thing so far is getting used to setting the volume while recording, but I thinks it is just because it is a new concept for me, as everthing else I have used is pretty much automatic. One quick question though. Will I be able to preview the sound before i finalize the disc? It will probably be a couple days before I mess with recording. I am now catching up on all the stuff I coudn't listen to because the others wouldn't read them.
retrokeeper 03-10-2006, 07:52 PM Yes Jonman, you can preview the CD before finalizing, you can only play it on the CD recorder though.Funny thing with both of these recorders...I have to use an equalizer in-line with which ever stereo system I have the CD Recorder hooked up to,to boost the line signal to get it so I don't have to run the recording level on the CD Recorders(either one)up to the maximum and to prevent distortion.I thought there was something wrong with my Teac CD Recorder when I had to do this, but I also had to do it with the RCA too. :scratch2: Rob
sorenj07 03-11-2006, 12:00 AM jesus, shrinkboy, get it right! _42 lanes_ is how many a man must walk down, not 47. sorry for the interruption  continue with the discussion, by all means.
PhilMcL 03-12-2006, 09:32 PM what i'm curious about here is whether you mean an "rca" recorder as in one that hooks up with rca plugs or one that is made by the company RCA :scratch2: . there seems to be confusion among the responders about this issue.
retrokeeper 03-15-2006, 09:48 AM RCA as in the company,I have two audio CD recorders, one from RCA and the other from Teac, both have a very similiar control layout....I wonder who makes the chassis for these...anybody know?I found another CD audio recorder from a company called Classic,a real pile of crap,DANGER-DANGER!!stay away from this brand!! Rob
jonman 03-15-2006, 10:48 AM Thanks to all that have responded to this thread. To any of you following I bought the RCA Cd player\ Burner and it is performing great. For the price, I dont think i could have done better considering that it is equivilant to 2 players and a burner to boot. It sounds great, is easy to use and has been able to read everything I have threw at it so far. Thanks again to Rob.
