Not unlike "The Last Waltz" which deserved a thread of its own, this one is right up there with me. Gazillions of dollars in Nazi gold, freaks everywhere, tanks that shoot paint shells being "held in reserve" by grogged up gypsy crews, real bridge-builders, scammers, Carroll O'Connor as the general that's giving medals to all of them, but him and his aide can't get his radio to work, big German tanks, and a laugh a minute. Great cast.

I have a store-bought videotape copy and the soundtrack blows. Anybody got a DVD yet?

I remember seeing that when it came out. Actually a few times on summer
matinee's. Donald Sutherland and Rickles were priceless too.
I haven't seen any movie at all in 7-8 years so I'm no help but that sure was fun. I think there is no making Mike Curb sound good. ;)

Donald Sutherland barking at people, Clint Eastwood, Telly Savalas, Don Rickles, Carroll O'Connor...Gawd, what a marvelous cast..I think they filmed this in Yugoslavia, The Yugoslavs prolly thought they were all mad. Wish I did have a DVD of it..I DO have "Burning Bridges" on a CD somewhere. It was by Mike Curb, who was also the lt. governor of California then, & whose principal job was to aggravate Gov. Moonbeam, Jerry Brown.-Sandy G.

Been many moons for me- I remember enjoying it, but at the same time thinking "These guys got together with about 50 lbs of weed, smoked it all, and then made a movie."

Great flick, think I'll snag it from our local library.

Edit:

Just reserved it and on DVD to boot.
Ebay's got lots of them and it looks like a 2000 release

And that's a bad thing how.....?

Love Kelly's Heroes - One of my favorites, and probably one of the best Tiger tank mock-ups in all of film. Especially pre- Saving Private Ryan.

Saw it at the local drive-in when I was in high school. It was a lot of fun...at least what parts of it I remember. But now that I think of it...most of my life from that time is a blur... :smoke:

I've had that one on DVD for awhile now and the best part is they used REAL Tiger Tanks in the movie!!Just remember Oddball's advice...You can't put Shermans up against Tigers!
I also like the song "Burning Bridges" by the Mike Curb Congregation...just got that CD last fall for that one song...

The DVD was remastered a few years ago and the picture and audio are much improved over my laserdisc.

The Shermans weren't much good against anything tougher than an armored car. The Germans called them Ronsons and for good reason.

Just couldn't miss the chance, could ya? :D

How's the sound quality on that DVD?
I've the DVD of it from the Clint Eastwood Collection. The audio has been remixed to 5.1 and well, isn't the greatest, but is a little better than the old track. I recall that the effects, music, and voices were rather unbalanced to each other resulting in the need to watch the volume control closely to hear what's being said while not being blasted out of the room with the rest. Still, I may have to watch this again soon. :scratch2:

I love this movie! Donald Sutherland...as the worlds FIRST hippie...gives this movie its charm. Great cast throughout. I love the scene where "Oddball" & his crew drive the 3 Shermans out from a train tunnel while blaring music from the tanks loudspeakers and do a suprise attack some Germans!

The German "Tigers" BTW....were not real. Those where definetly operating mock-ups. VERY good mock-ups though. The Shermans however, were real.

My fav part:

Eastwood: "So..Oddball whataya think?

Oddball: "It's a wasted trip baby. No-one said ANYTHING about locking horns with Tigers!"

Eastwood: It's simple, YOU create a diversion and keep those tanks occupied while they sneak into town"

Oddball: "Hey man! The only way I can keep those Tigers busy is by letting them shoot holes in me....They'll hear my detroit engines LONG before I get into town"

Eastwood: "No they won't because the church-bells will be ringing and we'll do it when they start up the tigers engines, AND I'll be right up on that turret next to you!!"

Oddball: "Like...Groovy! I mean WOW!...So many positive waves it can't miss!! You're ON!!" :D

I apreciated that the filmakers made the effort to have realistic war materiel represented in Kelly's Heroes. Unlike say "Battle of the Bulge" (which I like too) but used German-marked M47 Pattons in place of various model Panzers.

I can only echo what has already been said about the movie. That being, Sutherland owned it. (and rather than hijack this thread, I'll start another!)

LOL! Yea aren't they playing Hank Williams Jr while blasting everything?

Great movie. A true classic.

HBO is currently rotating Kellys Heros. It's next showing (in MY area, that is) is thursday at 4:35 AM. I've already set my DVR to record it, add it to my list of "weekend-watchables". :thmbsp:

Musta seen it 20 times in my life but I could watch it again!
