Darren and others: Out of the blue yesterday, I received this interesting jazz catalog in the mail - Jamey Aebersold Jazz. It is mainly a catalog for musicians, and it has over 100 instructional books on how to play (Improvisation, Fusion, Latin/Bossa etc.). None of that is of interest to me, as I can barely work a cdp, much less a guitar or piano.
But in the back, they have dozens of concert DVDs that I thought may be of interest to you (very reasonably priced too). Here are some examples:
Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers - Live At Ronnie Scotts
Art Pepper - Notes from a Jazz Survivor
Arturo Sandoval - For Love or Country, and Jazz Legend
Charles Mingus - Triumph of the Underdog, and Live at Montreux 1975
Chick Corea, Pat Metheny, and Lee Konitz - Woodstock Jazz Festival
Count Basie at Carnegie Hall
Dizzy Gillespie and the U.N. Orchestra - Live at London's Royal Festival Hall
Ella Fitzgerald - Something to Live For
The Four Tenors - John Coltrane, Ben Webster, Sonny Rollins, and Charles Lloyd (a collection of 1960's TV performances)
John Coltrane - Jazz Casual
Woody Herman - The Complete Session
Several Dave Brubeck DVDs
Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie - Founding Fathers of Beebop
and many others, all between $15 - $25.
Their website (which I haven't been to) is www.jazzbooks.com.
Thought someone here may be interested.
