View Full Version : NASA we have liftoff!
Well after three days of drilling holes, running wires and connecting IC's, and 2 trips to Radio Shack, and borrowing a pair of my son's bookshelves to stand in until UPS delivers the ones I got on the 'bay I finally had everything hooked up and setting up everything was a breeze with the on screen display from my Denon on my 51" TV. I am still learning how to run the thing and I am sure I still need to do some tweaks but so far so good. Played music off my PC and from a CD in the DVD player in 6 channel stereo and watched a couple scenes from movies in Dolby Digital 6.1 and all I gotta say is WOW! Can't wait to really unleash the volume (the girls was home = "turn it down", "why are the explosions so loud?") I did hit a couple bumps in the road (one of which I shall elaborate on a different thread) during setup but it ended well. I shall be waiting another month or so until I get my permenant front and rear center speakers before I post pics ;)
P.S. For those of you who may have wondered, I see no decrease in signal strength between using a 3' IC and 46' of IC (two 20's and a 6' coupled together) I was worried about this since the run from my PC in the bedroom out to the Denon in the living room was so far away. Also it was 32' of IC's to go from the Digi Coax out on my DVD and monitor in on TV to the Denon, which sits on the opposite side of the room with all the amps.

For proper home theater performance and television picture quality a Avia or similar set up DVD disk is in order. Also Radio shack sells an analog sound pressure level meter that is a must to get this all right. Believe me, a very worth while investment to get things operating corrrectly.
I know, I am gonna have to wait a couple weeks for an AVIA disc since I about drained all my "liquid assets" in getting all my gear. But an Avia disc and an SPL meter are on the "to do" list. ;)

Let's see some pics.
:D :D :D
Soon, Soon ;)
I rented "Saving Private Ryan" this weekend to really put the surround sound through it's paces (I forgot what an emotionally draining and graphic depiction of war it was tho :( ) And OH MY GAWD!!! The floor loaded 15"s in my CV's work perfectly as the LFE channel, I have them crossed over at 100 which is the exact crossover point used in the crossover of the speakers so now each amp only receives the low end and each can put all it's 300wpc into the job. I made the right decision in moving the CV's to the rear due to the fact that I thought the 15's would shake the floor too much by the HDTV because the couch felt like I had some of those bass shakers strapped to it. I actually had to turn down the LFE channel to -5 cuz I was scared something was gonna break! Everything just sounds amazing!

Thor,
In the 9 months since I joined this group your system has probably undergone more changes than any of us. You have toy fever boy! Be very very scared! Going from doubtfull to NF WAY! is often extremly close when dealing with WAF. For sure you have to act real excited for a long time while during the same span cut the spending down or you will get..................

Holy Shit Thor that much nice coax cable would set you back about $600. How did you manage to find a 32' piece of 75ohm coax cable or did you make one with some RG6 cable? IIRC it cost me almost $70CAN for a 1m IXOS silver series coax cable. You don't live in a gymnasium can't you find a way to shorten some of these obscene cable runs?
