I just saw a segment of CBS News Sunday morning and a gent has bought 24 semi loads of the late Bill Graham's packrat collection. He has placed some of it up for sale. He paid 5 to 6 million dollars and estimated value is from $50 million to over $100 million. Much is up for sale, save the most valuable peices.

The collection is online at Wolfgang's Vault. (http://www.wolfgangsvault.com) That is if you can get through their busy server.

I saw that as well, and I kept thinking 50 to 100 million my hind-end! If he doesn't have those concert tapes (both audio and video) remastered and released as box sets and special editions he's crazier than an outhouse rat. I you figure a selling price of $20 per concert X 100,000 sales per unit = that comes to $2 million per concert film or tape. I think they indicated that there were hundreds if not thousands of Fillmore tapes in that cellar so if even a fraction of them are salable - He's potentially sitting on billions not millions. Wow!

Thanks for the heads up. I popped over to the page, clicked on Vault Radio and am listening to a smoking Voodoo Child from 1970. What a treat.

While Bill Graham did make movies of his shows, most (film not S/B tapes) were destroyed by fire in the 80's. Graham used to show them on the S.F. cable public access channel back then. It used to kill me to read the TV listings and not live in S.F. to see them. :sigh:
The 128 feed is a real mess when I listened to it yesterday, but there is hope
for coherent programming. Some sound very compressed also. :thumbsdn:
I think Clear Channel Communications made a wise decision to sell the material
to this guy. Not too many millionaire's who can afford the stuff intersted in buying it me thinks. Maybe nice repro's will be soon after any rush on the material this guy bought.

Guess I need to modify. I looked at the site and the guy is selling Chet Helms
posters. So it must be he did not buy rights but the actual posters.
So I wonder if he has publishing rights to the music? :scratch2:
