I love the Brothers in Arms album and I found out they came out with a remastered version in stereo and on the other side there is a DVD-A mixed in 5.1.

I have to say the 5.1 mix is amazing. Dont get me wrong it sounds great in stereo but this is really neat to hear it in 5.1

If you havent heard it and like dire straits you need to

I haven't had the pleasure of hearing that version of it yet. Unfortunately, neither I or anyone I know has a 5.1 system (ignoring the crappy "bought in a box" HT systems). However, I have the JVC XRCD2 version from 2000 and it puts the original Vertigo/WB CD versions to shame. Also, still have the original WB vinyl copy of it too, albeit with edited versions of the songs. It never impressed me though. The pressing quality is very poor.

I thought the WB CD and vinyl sounded good. I didnt know about this JVC version of the CD. I know there is a better pressing of the vinyl that I would like to get my hands on.

Actually got to AB the two CDs that I have. Orginal WB and the new DVD-a/Stereo one. I have to say the new one is light years ahead of the old one. Im kind of scared to listen to the vinyl. I dont want to be dissapointed.

I have the LP and the 5.1 SACD.

The MC release is one of the most perfect recordings I have ever heard.

You guys should give this a try. It won't kill you.

It will make you very, very happy.

MC? Multi Channel.

I love mine and I am not sure if I will play the vinyl again.

I love my vinyl pressings. They sound good to me. Of course this is the album I listened to when dating my wife to be, so it has lots of good memories.

My brother lucked into a good Vertigo pressing when it came out. My first two attempts were greeted with thin, bowl shaped pressings with gas bubbles. Way to go WB. Anyway, I ended up with the CD version and that's when I discovered the album had edited versions of the songs.

I just got the MC disc last night. I had sampled it a QuadBob's place awhile back and was very amazed by the 5.1. I love this disc! I have been a dire straits fan since I was a kid, but never knew this MC remix would be so good.

I don't have an HT setup. The player I use is a Sony DVP-NS90V, which will dowmix the 5.1 into 4.0. Combined with the analog outputs I can pipe it directly into my quadraphonic receiver and it works great. I get my vintage and HT in one swoop.

You're talking about the debut aren't you? That's the CD with about 10 seconds of Knopfler's soloing cut off the end of two songs. Unfortunately it also sounds better than the somewhat compressed remasters that many prefer, but the original WB vinyl still sounds great. Somewhere there was a CD of that debut with the correct play times and the uncompressed sound. Maybe the German or Japan copy?

I had the original WB vinyl and CD. The vinyl was heavily edited so it would fit.
My JVC XRCD2 is unedited and smokes the others.
