:scratch2: Has anyone seen one of these. It looks like small mixing board. I bought it at a goodwill store but I'm not sure what I can do with it.

View Full Version : Marantz 5420 cassette deck? davidb 02-20-2006, 02:29 PM :scratch2: Has anyone seen one of these. It looks like small mixing board. I bought it at a goodwill store but I'm not sure what I can do with it. J. H. 02-20-2006, 02:35 PM Well, I supose you could always play tapes with it. :D oldtubes 02-20-2006, 07:34 PM The 5420 was their TOTL deck in the mid 70's. It is a very good 2 head deck. I have a 5220 that is one step down. SDA SRS 1.2 02-20-2006, 07:53 PM I also have a 5220 and it sounds great! Here's a link to some good info on the 5420: http://www.angelfire.com/wi/blueswapper/bsmarantz.html shrinkboy 02-20-2006, 07:55 PM you could also record stuff with it, too SDA SRS 1.2 02-21-2006, 06:14 PM Let us know how you like that 5420 - hope the link was of some help! dcfly 02-22-2006, 02:28 AM Here are some specs for this model, pulled from this (http://www.analogaudio.info/handbook/index.htm) website. Brand: Marantz Model: 5420 Year: 1975 Heads: 2 F.R., ±3dB, Hz-kHz: 30-17 W&F, WRMS, %: 0.07 S/N, NR off, dB: 52 S/N, Best NR, dB: 60 NR & Bias: B/FM Rec. Cal.: No Auto Reverse: No Drive: Open Motors: 1 Weight, kg: 9.3 Price, MSRP, USD: 430 lasminit2 10-26-2006, 04:03 PM What can you do with it? Well, it is pretty loaded for live recording. The panpots will "place" a signal anywhere you want it in the mix. I plan to hook up TWO (yes it has enough inputs) microphones on each channel and try some acoustic guitar and bass. It won't multitrack, but for live stuff, that is OK. It is a great design, but probably only useful to musicians (or friends of musicians). No kidding, the recording potential looks really interesting. Sansui Louie 10-26-2006, 05:04 PM I have a soft spot for top loaders. Nice deck! Celadon 10-26-2006, 05:31 PM I always wanted one of those... The 5420 is so purdy all lit up. |
