This program was created to allow members the opportunity to demo cables in their own environment, under their own conditions. We're not selling these cables, and have no direct affiliation with any of these companies, although a couple are active sponsors of Audiokarma. The intention is to remove the bias that is typically generated by a general statement, and allow you to conduct your testing of the programs’ offerings. We don’t care whether you buy anything, but we do think it’s imperative to make your own in-house evaluation, and stop listening only to what you read.

If it makes a difference on YOUR rig, in YOUR home....then it’s beneficial. It may not do anything, or display any change, but don’t you think that YOU should make that determination? It’s true, cable theory is theory....but it has an application in the real world to alot of individuals.

The cables in this program that are modestly priced, and easy to obtain. Common man cables if you will, nothing super esoteric, or unobtainium.

If you are a cable non-believer, then please sign up and test your head. Your opinion is as valuable as the next and is welcome in this program. It doesn’t matter whether you believe in the benefits of upgraded or “high end” cables, it’s just giving you the chance to determine the benefits, or lack thereof, on your own.

We started the program, completely out-of-pocket and with some donations direct from manufacturers; in order to give something back to the forum that consumes us on a daily basis. On the initial interest thread, some balked, some walked and some stepped up and thought it was a good idea. If any members want to step up and donate cables to the program, the more the merrier. That’s what community is all about.

Rules of engagement -> The program works in this fashion….

The program is currently active, so if you wish to participate in a current demo, you simply sign up in THIS thread. You just have to specify what you’re interested in joining, and I will add you to the “roster” below. This is the “sticky” thread, and it will contain the bulk of information regarding this exercise and all updates to the active roster.

The “demo” time period is approximately two (2) weeks from receipt of the cable and/or cables.

The roster contains the names of the current participants, in regards to the individual demos, and the status of the actual demo (e.g.. Completed…Demo…Skipped, etc). The participants are responsible for contacting the next member; when their demo is complete, in order to arrange shipping information.

It is perfectly acceptable to be involved in multiple demos, and we actually encourage members to get involved with as much as is possible. Please get involved, as the forum is interested in your comments and thoughts on this subject.

After you have completed your demo, you are asked to post your review of the cable(s) in the appropriate thread. Please realize that this is one of the most important parts of the program, as it pertains to your actual views on the experience. We will have an individual thread created, for each cable in the program, and have it linked in this thread. Your opinion is valuable, and will not be up for debate, bashing, or argument of any sort.

The demo-completed member should at that point contact the next participant and arrange shipping. This is the only cost you incur in this program, shipping to the next member. I would suggest USPS Priority Mail, but that is entirely up to the parties involved.

Our Canadian members are fully involved and welcomed to this program as well.

Zebra IC ( RCA) or speaker (spades/bannana). Min 6 ft on the speaker, meter on the IC is fine.

Just a suggestion: for ICs, can you specify RCA or XLR for the future (assuming you'll wind up with any XLRs)?

IC's are all RCA terminated, unless otherwise specified.

Interest in XLR has been noted, and I do have some Digital Coax coming down the pike soon (not listed yet) that are balanced - still working on IC pairs.

Is it possible to contribute cables to the cable swap program as a donation? When I worked in pro audio (got out of it a few years ago), we made LOTS of interconnects, and had a good method down that we used for live shows, recording, studio playback, etc.

I have quite a number of these interconnects around, and would be happy to contribute a 1m stereo pair to the cable swap. They are made from Canare components and star-quad wire, carefully soldered, with directional shielding. They cost about 10$ a pair in parts. I don't claim that they are super-amazing or anything special, but they might make a good comparison, since it is what is used in the 'pro' world, and are my 'standard' interconnect, built to be durable, reject noise, and be as transparent as possible, while still using inexpensive components (I don't even use tech-flex (!)).

Let me know if that would be acceptable!

I'm new to this area, having always used 12 guage copper to power my ADS/Braun collection. I just purchased a pair of Vandersteens and now am faced with the prospect of (sorry guys, given the amount of dispute and confusion on the issue) bi-wiring :sigh: Having never dealt with this before (I do understand, I think, how to do it) I'm really not sure of cable choice. Looking at cables costing over $100 gives me concern and the potential for spousal issues! I don't see any 4 conductor cables listed in the trial options. Any reasonably priced recommendations would be sincerely appreciated.

Oop, missed the 'more the merrier' sentence the first time around. :) Email sent to the russman. I know 'diy' cables weren't really the intended use of this, but the hundreds of interconnects we made were identical to the Canare pro cables you can buy at any pro audio outlet. We just made our own because it was so much cheaper. So while they are technically 'diy', they are a standard commercial design, with standard commercial components.

First off I've had busted ribs before, not fun :no: Takes a long time to get better, Take it easy on 'um, I've been getting a handle on the Marantz 2270 pre out to the SAE A202 to the Martin Logans with the Thorens 125 MKII, SME, Grado calling the shots, and the old Toshiba CD player for well...CD's, I've been using what ever cheap connects I had on hand with out even thinkin' something could be better, asmuch as I hate to admit it, my roommate has a better ear than me, so the review will be from two sets (or is it four)? ears should be interesting and, hopefully fun!! :banana:

I am gonna try to get everything inventoried and figured out over the next couple of days. Will make sure you get put on the list for some real gems.

I need to get ALL the cables back, and do this a little differently. I still need to hear from SEVERAL people.

Once everything is back in house, we'll restart with an interconnect box, a speaker cable box, a power cord box, etc etc.

I have the Zebra IC's so far, and NOTHING else from the program. PLEASE PM ME WITH WHAT YOU HAVE, and when you plan to 'finish' with your current demo. I have a TON of cables to add, but I'm not going to do it, if they are disappearing.

PLEASE shoot me a quick PM with what you have, and I'll get you an address to ship it to.

Sign me up for some trials, I'll be glad to audition stuff and report back.
