This kinda counts- I've been listening (in stereo, not 5.1) the second installment of the Martin Scorcese blues series on DVD, "The Soul of a Man".

This is the Wim Wenders directed episode ( Mr. Wenders also directed Buena Vista Social Club). Features Skip James, Blind Willie Johnson and J. B. Lenoir. Very rare performances of J.B. Lenoir, a must-see for that alone. Also guest tracks by Nick Cave, Lou Reed, and others really makes this an enjoyable listen.

I also like Taj Mahal's "An Evening of Acoustic Music". Stunning!

And last week, picked up an odd, cherry-red, semi-transparent vinyl recording of Odetta at the San-Fran club the Tin Angel that I've yet to hear as my TT is currently disconnected. anticipation... but I know I'm going to love it!

Another great live Blues recording is John Mayall's The Turning Point, recorded at the Fillmore East in 1969.

One of my newer faves is Luther Allison's "Live in Chicago". Very nice, high energy electric blues in the Chicago style. The Amazon link below has samples on it.

"Live in Chicago" (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00000JWP7/104-6154242-8280762?v=glance&n=5174)

BTW, that's him in my avatar circa 1979 or so.

Also, "Cheap Thrills" has got to be mentioned. Janis's live version of "Ball and Chain" is a classic, and "Summertime" is arguably the best version ever.

I always have trouble restraining myself while listening to this one, I tend to keep turning it up a little more, and a little more...

Hound Dog Taylor: "Beware of the Dog." You're dead if this doesn't get you moving and applying adult beverages (or other stimulants) to your tissues.

Second: The Red Devils, "Live at King King." You are there.
