I'm moving across the country and I shipped some items via Fedex ground. It was an Infinity center channel and about 30 DVDs. The package made it about 100 miles before disappearing. It was insured for $600, so I should be covered.

Fedex wants proof of value when filing a claim. How much do I need to be able to provide? I could come up with a more or less complete list of the DVDs and the cost of a similar speaker, but not receipts, or the exact amount paid of all the items. Do they want me to track down the replacement cost of each and every DVD, or can I just say I lost 30 DVDs at $15 each? I don't want to screw this up because of the amount involved.

If you paid for $600 insurance, it seems like you'd get $600.

He still needs to prove the value, other wise folks would be shipping $50 receivers, insuring then for $1000, and claiming losses.

Believe it or not, Ebay is a good sounding board for replacement cost. Allstate paid me Ebay value on many of my items lost in a garage fire 15 months ago.

Send them an itemized list of everything lost with Ebay closed auction references as valuations and you should be OK.

If you paid for $600 insurance, it seems like you'd get $600.Doesn't work that way. You could insure a box full of wadded newspaper for $1000, but that doesn't mean you get $1000. You have to tell them what as in the box, and prove that it is worth what you claim.

Itemize the DVD's, and see if you can come up with a value somewhere for the speaker.
