View Full Version : David Gilmour - On an Island
jamesgf 03-03-2006, 11:58 AM Ive had this one pre-ordered for a while now, but my curiousity got the best of me and i found a leak of it online. I was rather impressed with it, it sounds alot like pink floyd in the post waters era. I think it would be safe to say that if you liked division bell or momentary lapse of reason you will enjoy this one. It has some excellent guitar work on it. I cant wait to get the CD and listen to it in full uncompressed form.
Anyone else looking forward to this?
KeninDC 03-03-2006, 12:32 PM I am. W/ no Floyd Tour, I'll take the voice and guitar...
Filmboydoug 03-03-2006, 12:38 PM Yup.
Drybasement 03-03-2006, 12:55 PM You betcha...
You can be sure that I'll be paying a visit to my local music store next Tuesday.
jamesgf 03-03-2006, 01:35 PM I'd love to see this tour, too bad its been sold out for a while now. I was checking out the album credits and i didnt know richard wright was playing on it, no wonder it has such a floyd vibe to it.
Yes, it is indeed a fine album. Through my job I got to listen to the various "Album Premiere" broadcasts that were sent to many US radio stations (Rock, Classic Rock, AAA, non-commerial Variety). It contained the entire album, as well as an acoustic demo version of "Smile" with completely 'clean' vocals (no reverb/effects at all!), which won't be on the final commercial release. Very cool stuff, I recommend checking with your local station to see when/if they are broadcasting it. It is easily on par with anything Floyd has done post-Waters (if not a bit better...less grandeur, bit more focus), and some of the tracks wouldn't sound out of place back on DSOTM.
Definitely enjoying this one. Been listening to a "liberated" copy i have but will defintely buy this one. Just have to decide personally whether i want it on cd or vinyl.
rulerboyz 03-05-2006, 09:03 PM Only trouble is that the vinyl will be considerably more expensive to buy (about $33 to get one shipped across the pond to Canada).
gearhead 03-06-2006, 12:15 AM I'm looking forward to it.
I heard one song while driving to Indy Friday, and said to my GF "That sounds like David Gilmour."
She thought it did, too, and darned if it wasn't.
WhiskeyRebel 03-06-2006, 02:39 PM WRIF played a preview of a song on it and it sounds like it could have come from Momentary Lapse. I enjoyed it.
Kim G 03-06-2006, 08:33 PM The local station I listen to has the entire album linked on their site, I gave it a listen over the weekend and I liked it . I hope the vinyl version is available.
Here is the link if you want to give it a listen

Thanks for the link! :music:
Filmboydoug 03-07-2006, 12:19 AM Thanks for the link. On my second listen and I like it very much. Some wonderful stuff here. Kim, Acoustic Sounds has it on vinyl.
Mark W. 03-07-2006, 12:51 AM Where will it be available on vinyl I would be very interested in that.
trying to get up the "nerve" to buy the box vinyl set of 'Pulse" $$$$ But I really love vinyl and that is why I build the system I have so I guess I might as well just bite the bullet and find a copy to buy.
There's a record show this weekend maybe I'll get lucky.
PabloL 03-08-2006, 05:45 PM To Meddle, Wish you were here, and Dark side, all of which I just ordered on LP's?
Filmboydoug 03-08-2006, 05:54 PM Not really. A few of the songs could have come right off A Momentary Lapse Of Reason, but some of it sounds old-old floydish. Chill out music, not big project music if that makes sense.
Can you still get some of the Floyd's on LP. I just recently purchased the 30 ann. edition of DSOTM on vinyl but didn't see any others. Wish the whole catalog was available. The only floyd i still have on LP is of course DSOTM, A Saucerful of Secrets and, A Collection of Great Dance Songs. Wish i still had The Wall and countless others. Think i got raped and pillaged by a brother as i'm sure i'm short about 50 LP's over the last ten years.
