View Full Version : Onkyo M504
bigstereo 03-06-2006, 06:10 AM Hi everyone. Would anyone here know what years these units were produced and how I could go about getting an idea when mine was built? Also, what was the going price for these brand new? I know that these were in production for a fairly long time.
No, I'm not getting ready to sell one. I just bought one. I may have paid a bit much for it but the unit is mint and I really, really wanted it.
Happy Monday! :yippy:
bolly 03-06-2006, 06:18 AM bluebook says,
ONKYO PWR, M-504 INTEGRA

BTW, used price is always low.
flintstone 03-06-2006, 05:59 PM I own one, I bought it new for $800 around 10 years ago. They usually go at Ebay for around $400-$500 in very good condition. I don't know how long Onkyo made this model but you are correct...it was a good number of years.
BTW, mine is still looking and working as good as it did the day I brought it home...it's been driving a pair of large VMPS Supertowers all this time that I bought along with the amp.

bigstereo 03-06-2006, 06:28 PM Thanks guys. I paid $489 BIN for this one off ebay. I've been watching and seeing them go for 450-550 or so. I had the cash so I pulled the trigger. Nice looking peice.
Any experience with the Onkyo preamps? P304/306rs? I might pick one of those up to go with the amp sometime. I've got an adcom GTP600 that I'm not crazy about.
flintstone 03-06-2006, 07:10 PM It's been a few years but I did hear mine with the 304 preamp at the store when I was checking out the amp...I thought it sounded pretty good at the time...like I said though, a 10 year old memory here.
Not long ago I hooked my M-504 up in my two-channel system which has a very good tubed preamp. Because the Onkyo has the power meters I figured I could get an idea of the power needed to drive my Apogee Duetta Signature speakers with a tube amp.
I left the Onkyo in the system for around a week playing all kinds of music at volume levels as loud as I figured I would ever need...worked out great and I wound up buying a pair of tubed monos that work great in that system.
The big suprise was how GOOD the old Onkyo sounded when used with a very good preamp in a two channel system...I've always used it as a hometheater amp in my hometheater...it sounded first rate in every way and had no problem driving my 4 ohm fullrange Apogees to very loud levels without even a wimper!

Paul C 03-07-2006, 01:13 PM I recently picked up an Onkyo M-5140 power amp, P-3200 preamp, and T-4000 tuner.
Bolly, any idea on when these were made?
Can't find anything on the T-4000 at www.fmtunerinfo.com/. The P-3200 is quite nice.
The M-5140 used the large STK output chips, not discrete components. Still, I have never had any problems with Onkyo equipment.
Dire McCain 03-15-2006, 05:46 PM Got my M504 for $30, EQ35 for $30, M304 preamp for $30...running hpm 100s...I thought my sansui 9090 sounded good...thought my pioneer a77x sounded better...can't believe how much better the 504 sounds than any of them...got the 77x powering my rear surround speakers...Theil 04s...got em for...you guessed it...$30...
yeah, I've had a pretty good roll...
Vinylhammer 03-16-2006, 06:10 AM I have the Onkyo Integra P-306rs and am very impressed this preamp. Very heavy and well built using high quality parts. The phono section is excellent. Very detailed with a very quiet background. Makes my yamaha c-4 preamp sound dissapointing, and its a nice preamp. If you have a chance to get the p-306 go for it.

Shweet! I've been watching those m304 pre's on ebay, there's been a pile of em on there lately, and could'nt touch one for under 150 bucks. I'd like to have some matching units in my set up. I'm real happy with the M504 since it arrived last week in mint condition. Running it through my 9090db to jbl4311's. And although I have a love affair going on with my Phase Linear 400II, I have to say that the Onkyo sounds better. Nicer looking amp too. I have not had a chance to crank it up yet due to the fact that I live in a four unit apartment building and have to wait untill everyone is out somewhere.

Paul C 03-23-2006, 05:54 PM I've been VERY happy with my P-3200 Preamp. You can pick these up on eBay for $40-$60. The original remote is long gone, found out it is RC-118s. But mine works well with these similar remotes: RC-269s, RC-294s, RC-296s, RC-329s, RC-330s.
These have two sets of cassette controls for operating Onkyo dual well cassettes, which I have. The Disk button (not present on the RC-118s) will not make my Onkyo 340 (6 CD changer) switch to the next CD, but the rest of the CD controls work. Perhaps this feature was not available when the preamp was made? The Video 2 button does not switch to that input. Everything else works well, though.
And it is a perfect visual match to my M-5140 or your M-504.

Dire McCain 03-24-2006, 09:34 AM I have enjoyed the M504 immensely. Especially for the price. Now I need advice on speakers that have tight basss, a mellower and more musical sound than the HPM100s I've had since birth, yet with the same build quality and durability...not that I will need it in 30 years...as Lieutenant George Zipp once said "...don't know where'll I'll be then...but I won't be smelling very good..." Great movie.
SleeperSupra 04-05-2006, 01:46 AM I have always enjoyed my Onkyo Integra M504. I think this is a great amplifier for the money. My M504 has always been a very musical and sweet sounding amplifier with great control of the lower frequencies and a nice detailed treble. I bought the amp new in 1998 and have never had a single problem with it except for the meter lights burning out which I just replaced a couple of days ago. I now have no need for my M504 as I replaced it in my system with a Soundcraftsmen MA5002A amplifier and two Soundcraftsmen PA5001’s and I am really short on money; I think I may put it up for sale on eBay…
SleeperSupra 04-27-2006, 03:39 PM If anyone is interested I am going to put a near mint Onkyo Integra M504 up for sale...
SleeperSupra 06-20-2006, 12:28 AM I've been watching and seeing them go for 450-550 or so.
I just sold mine for $660 on eBay. :thmbsp:
