hello
when i use the input on my SX-950 (laptop -> RCA -> SX-950) the sound is awful. there are absolutely no highs what-so-ever. it sounds fine using the radio (i think), but when i switch to input (tried using all 3 of them) the bass is there, but zero mids or highs.
whats wrong?
thanks for all the help in advanced

anyone? i'd love to use this to drive speakers rather than some crappy JVC cd player....

What you are using for a soundcard is going to be a vital link in this equation. Try using a CD player or DVD player as your input device to the receiver and see if you still get the same results.
Another issue could be if the music you are listening to on the PC are in the form of compressed mp3 files. Lots of possible variables here.

yeah i tried using a DVD player playing a CD and it was still messed up. the sound on my laptop is fine as it doesn't sound like crap when using the laptop speakers or headphone out.

Are you using the phono input?

The phono input is only for turntables.

so i should be using the aux?

Yup, the phono input is for phono only. The Aux input will handle other external sources such your pc, cd player, tape decks.etc.

You can also use the tape inputs for all your non turntable devices.

thanks, using tape and aux it works fine. i guess the cable i used earlier was bunk (i had tried AUX as well as the two phono inputs when i originally posted the thread).
man, these speakers truely suck....

some shat speakers i took off this JVC "highfi": http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00005B9A2/002-5812467-9445625?v=glance&n=172282
being a poor highschool student, i can't afford much. all this gear i'm using now was salvaged from the garage. i'm a headphone guy (grado SR225s amped by a stock millett hybrid) and these are my introduction into the speaker world. this JVC crap just about has no solid bottom end well, everything about them suck. to help out the lack of bass, i also have a subwoofer i canabalized from an altec lansing self powered speaker set, but unfortunately since i tore it appart from its powering circuit, i only have a pair of bare leads. any way i can hook this up to the reciever?
eventually, i plan to build a pair of these: http://www.zaphaudio.com/audio-speaker13.html

garage sale season is coming up soon, maybe you do some searching on this forum and find out which vintage speakers are worth picking up, and then try to find a pair.

good idea. even if the speaker i pick up sucks or doesn't work, i can always transplant new/better drivers in them.
