I picked up a set of Infinity SS 2002 speakers today for $5  But when I hooked them up, the tweets did not wok. i took the tweeters out and checked with my Ohm meter. They checked out OK. So i looked for a fuse on the X-over, none. I can't figure out what piece on the x-over is bad. If I bypass the X-over, they work!

Anyone know :scratch2:

Well, first off, try resisting the temptation to run them with the crossover bypassed. Without the protective capacitors in the circuit, the tweeters will see signals too low in frequency for their design and burn them out in short order.

Now, as to what might be wrong, you'll want to do the obvious such as measuring the resistance of the connection wires (though it rarely happens, these can go bad) and look for broken solder connections on the board (ring or crater around pin). If that checks out, then it's likely one of the caps has gone bad and seeing how they're electrolytic, you can go ahead and upgrade your speakers by swapping those out with Dayton or Solens polypropylene film capacitors. Of course, those resistors could be bad as well -- a bit of a common problem with Infinity speakers -- so you'll want to pull one lead off the board and measure their resistance to check to see if they're open (no continuity). If one or two prove to be bad, then you'll need to replace those too.

Of course, the main question is whether you really want to put much time, effort, and money into these speakers? The specs aren't the most impressive and being that these were made after the Harmon buy-out, aren't likely to have been the most spectacular sounding speakers in the first place.

Some insight! Thank you so Much, I'll give your ideas a try. I don't think it's the caps, When I tested both of them with my Ohm meter, sound come out of the woofer!

Not that great of a speaker, I know, but for $5, I couldn't resist! Plus it gives me something to work on (not that i don't have enought stuff to fix)!

Homer, do you have a scope?

Great device for tracing the signal as it comes into the speakers and finding where it disappears.

Or you could use a meter set on AC. Do you follow me?
