View Full Version : Help with Kenwood Receiver EvanG 03-12-2006, 06:55 PM I got a Kenwood KR 5150 at a garage sale for 2 dollars a few days ago. I have no idea if it is anygood or not, but it only plays out of the right channel. Can somebody help me please? drspiff 03-12-2006, 07:03 PM I think the standard advice at this point is to throughly clean, using Deox-It, all the controls. This means spritzing Deox-It into the control and moving the control back and forth repeatedly. It is entirely possible that your only problem is one or more dirty controls. ou can get Deox-It at lots of stores, and I think even Radio Shack carries it. As one of the converted, any other contact cleaner is just a waste of time. Start with Deox-it and go on from there. EvanG 03-12-2006, 07:08 PM do you mean to clean the contacts? rulerboyz 03-12-2006, 07:16 PM If there is something as serious as no sound from one side, I would first flush the potentiometers with isopropyl alcohol. Let the alcohol evaporate and then do the deoxit. The potentiometers located at the front of receiver. Those things that the knobs are connected to. The potentiometer have holes in them, you squirt deoxit into those open spaces and then you turn the potentiometers back and forth. Volume, treble, bass, balance. http://www.futurlec.com/Pictures/POTa.jpg mhardy6647 03-12-2006, 07:17 PM yup, all switch contacts and all the variable resistors (pots), balance, volume, bass, treble. Oftentimes (but not always) that's all the problem is. rulerboyz 03-12-2006, 07:30 PM The procedure will look something like this: EvanG 03-12-2006, 07:45 PM I will try that and tell you the results wank 03-12-2006, 11:09 PM The procedure will look something like this: So that's how it works. Wow. I'm little embarrassed about how badly I messed that up. Doctor says the burns should heal up though, and I should be able to return to a "somewhat" normal sex life. Pics of the 5150 would be really nice! rulerboyz 03-12-2006, 11:27 PM I think you might have been turning the wrong knob in that case. http://kumulus.free.fr/austinpowers.jpg xilef regnu 03-13-2006, 02:00 AM If this has a normal/seperate switch on the back panel, I think this is normally the culprit on older Kenwoods. A simple working of the switch clears it up. Usually you have to remove a little plastic cover secured by a phillips head screw to operate the switch. Worked on my KR-4140 :music: EvanG 03-13-2006, 08:23 AM pics of kenwood 5150 rulerboyz 03-13-2006, 09:36 AM Yes I can see the separates switch on the back, and you can see an arrow pointed towards it in the following picture. You will need to remove the steel cover at the bottom in order to access the switch from the bottom. You can spray it from the sides of the switch and then move the switch back and forth several times, making sure you have given it a good deoxit coating inside the switch. EvanG 03-13-2006, 10:57 AM I deoxed every contact and it works!!!!!! Thanks for the help. Does anybody have any specs on the receiver? Like wpc or anything. It sounds very good with my advent/3's i hooked up to them. rulerboyz 03-13-2006, 12:38 PM 40 Watts Per Channel EvanG 03-13-2006, 01:20 PM thanks |
