I've just made a 19" RCA color hybrid portable in working condition available in the swap forum.

Any of you vintage rectangular color portable experts know anything you can tell me about this model?

I'm impressed that it doen't pull your arm out of the socket lifting it. Must be a series string set with no power xfmer.

Here is the back. I didn't see a model number. Haven't been inside.

This set appears to be from 1973 or 74. 1974 was the last year for RCA tube type color sets. I'll have to check the RCA service manuals for the exact chassis number---I think it is CTC-51 or 52.
I have got two of these type but cannot remember exact chassis number.
It uses solid-state color demodulator modules and has solid-state IF. Yes, it is a series-string set. An interesting feature is that it has a thermal fuse mounted near the horizontal output tube that is connected to the HO cathode circuit. If the heat from the tube is excessive, the thermal fuse opens and the HO shuts down.

Chad,

Welcome to AK and thank you for sharing this information. That was a good idea to replace the Horizontal protection from an expensive flyback to a cheaper thermal breaker which unlike a flyback is resettable. ;)

Do you collect vintage TV's as a hobby too?

Rob--Thanks for the welcome. I have found this site very informative and have enjoyed viewing the pictures.
Yes, I collect and repair TV's---have a collection of about 200.
Most are from the 1970's, although I do have some round-screen color sets and some B/W sets from the early 50's. Most have been given to me, gotten from the trash or community clean-up days, or bought for less than $10. I have even found TV's dumped in fields and ditches that I have got back to working condition.

Chad,

That's not a collection...that's an inventory! ;) Hope to see more of you on the board now that you've come out of lurk mode.

How about posting some pics of your round color sets in the vintage color forum?!

Cheers,
Rob
