Lefty 04-27-2003, 10:12 AM Hi group;
As I shared in the chat room the other night, my older daughter, Wendy, will be getting married this September. I have been tasked with picking a song for the father/daughter dance at the reception.
As of now I'm leaning towards 'Forever Young'. I so far have taped versions by:
Bob Dylan
Joan Baez
Rod Steward
So the question to the group is did any other artists cover this song? I would like to sample as much variation as possible.
Thanks in advance
Lefty
bigmacc 04-27-2003, 10:34 AM Lefty know nothing about these versions but following artist have recorded that song. L'm not sure even if it is the same song maybe just same title.
Alphaville
REM
Meatloaf
The Band
Rod Stewart by far has the best version suited for graduations, weddings, etc.
People will wonder what the hell old hippy played Bob Dylan or Joan Baez for the father daughter dance at the wedding
How can there even be a choice between the 3 here? Have you listened to them?
ProAc_Fan 04-27-2003, 10:58 AM Alphaville's is IMHO by far the most romantic version of that tune.
Lefty I put it up on my website incase you'd like to dload and save it.
alpaville's forever young (http://home.cogeco.ca/~mrichardson122/techno_Trance-Rave-Jungle--Alphaville%20-%20Forever%20Young%20(Happy%20Hardcore).mp3)

opt80 04-27-2003, 11:13 AM Lefty, since Ican't make it to the wedding, may I make a song suggestion? Canada's own John Mcdermott and the song "Daughter of Mine"
Well if we are suggesting other songs what about that song "Daddy's Hands" ??
My GF suggests Bette Midlers "wind beneath my wings"
ProAc_Fan 04-27-2003, 11:51 AM Thor that's a great tune for the Bride/Father dance. In fact it's the one we used.:D
Mike
Hey Lefty my woman wants to know what song and what version you've picked.
Lefty 05-01-2003, 11:06 PM Hi Thor;
Well thing could change between now and September but I am still leaning towards 'Forever Young', Rod Steward version. I have also found that I had a Diana Ross version in my LP collection, so that makes four versions. I did a song search on amazon.com and seemed like there were over a dozen different artist that covered this song.
Anyway I plan on burning four version onto a CD and let Wendy listen and see if she has a favorite. I'm not betting that she picks any other the 'old hippie'versions ;)
Lefty
Can't go wrong with ole' Rod, good choice ;)
Matt Lafayette 05-04-2003, 12:15 AM May I humbly suggest both you and your daughter consider the superb song, "What the Day Brings" by "Brad"?
The only reason I'd dare suggest an alternative tune to you is that it was released one year after my own wedding and my wife and I both wished it had been a year earlier!
It's just a beautiful tune with a heartening message,(and not for a second sappy), that would work superbly well as the bride and father song.
The LP was released in '97 and was titled "Interiors"
Do yourself a favour and give it a listen.
Congratulations.
Matt
merrylander 07-15-2003, 11:32 AM We just met our future daughter-in-law this weekend and all I can say is I hope there is no father-in-law/daughter-in law dance.
She is one lovely young woman, but in addition to me having two left feet, I am 5'7" to her 5'10" even without heels.

DingusBoy 07-15-2003, 11:50 AM As a side note, Bob Dylan said that was his best/favorite song of everything he ever wrote.
My personal favorite is The Last Waltz version, his voice is really on on that one and The Band back up beautifully. Might be worth a listen.
IMHO, Rod's version isn't all that great. It's pretty but emotionless. Say what you will about Mr. Dylan's voice but he sings with feeling and conviction as good or better then anyone.
May God Bless & Keep You Always,
Dingus
