Well, I was thinking about this last night, and with JP also suggesting it in another post, this will be an attempt at it.

I thought I'ld keep it to the Quantum Line, since it is the only data I was tracking and have at the moment.

Other model lines could be brought in as their own separate database. I think that would be a good thing, as one database for all Infinities could become way too big and unmanageable.

What I will attempt to do, is add the info into the single main post as others post with their data.

There has to be a better way though of having a database similar to a spreadsheet. It would be great if this spreadsheet was viewable and directly editable from it's place of residence, like a shared file. I don't know if this forum software has that capability. Maybe it does and no-one yet knows it?

That will be the challenge to be conquered :scratch2:

Next post will be the infant database.

OH, for anyone who would like to post their data, reply here. If you want to be anonymous, PM me and I'll not include your name (although I'll know who you are so it wouldn't be 100% anonymous).

There is an interesting trend between Serial numbers and whether the speaker set is mirror imaged or not. That is what started all this :D . Then there is Charivari's set with really wierd numbers. Maybe there are more of those out there? or maybe not!

(7103168 & 7206395) - mirror imaged Q3's.

(7104061 & 7104520) - Mirror imaged Q2's , no rear emit, Bi-ampable, 3 tone controls, tweeter crossover selector switch, thin woofer phase ring - Kencat's.

(7209404 & 7209405) - NON-Mirrored Q3's

(7207664 & 7206975) - Mirrored Q3's - bought new in 1979

(1020711 & 1020712 & 7103657) - non-mirrored Q2's, rear EMIT, no biamp, thick woofer phase ring. Newer cabinet (7 series) used parts from older cab, Biamp, no rear Emit but modified for it, from a mirrored pair, thin woofer phase ring replaced by older model thick ring. - Charivari's

(7100586 & 7101282) - Mirror imaged Q2's, No backside tweeter - Walllly's

(7101797 & 7102422) - Mirror imaged Q2's, No backside tweeter, and biamped - Bocoogto's

I had a PM asking what the info was in the so-called database post above. It was a good question so here is an answer.

The 1st set of numbers are the serial numbers of each speaker, so two serials per speaker set. The other data explains if the set of two speakers are mirror imaged or not. If you look at my Avatar picture of the Quantum 2, they are mirror imaged. Look at the drivers that are off of center, they are on different sides of the cabinets. Some people do not have mirror sets, where each speaker is the same.

There are also differences in models between having a rear mounted Emit Tweeter or not (quantum 2's for sure), and whether the speaker wire connectors were single or Bi-ampable, i.e. one amp could be hooked up to the woofer only, and another amp hooked up to the rest of the drivers. Do some reseach on AK about bi-amp and you'll understand the benifits of it.

Feel free to post with any questions or suggestions for other data to collect.

I needed something to bump up the presence of this database to maybe get some interest, so here goes :D

This link is to a really nice example of a web-based database. It is from the Vishay website. I've been researching resistors and came across this today. Nice feature where at the top of the column you can filter the search results.

http://www.vishay.com/resistors-discrete/power-more-five/wirewound/

There are a lot of times on the various forums on AK where people are trying to start a database. I wonder if there is a program that AK can obtain that allows this type of database to be created. Each database would probably require an owner or moderator. There may be legitimate FREE programs available under GNU licensing too :scratch2:

Anyone have any leads or experience with html databases?
