I have a pair of Overture IIIs.
Bought them in 1997 and then in 2000 one day while playing them, one of the sub woofer power amps started smoking and caught fire. I wasnt even playing them loud (I never do) and I always keep the sub level at the 1/2 mark. Any way Curcuit City offerd to replace the one speaker. Now I have one that is 3 years newer then the other one and I believe mods were made on the newer one. Anybody know what the mods were. Anybody know where you can get spare amps just in case..H/K no longer stocks them.
By the way..they are pretty good sounding speakers.

Open her up and see what the difference is. Take pictures and post them here, I'm sure someone will have a keen eye and be able to tell you what the upgrades, if any, are. I'm curious.

I guess I could open 'em up. I'll have to do it one weekend day when my wifes out for the day so I can take my time.

The crossover went bad in one of my Overture 3s a few years ago. Took it to the local authorized Infinity repair shop. They said it was a bad tweeter so replaced it with one Infinity sent them. It is not identical to the original in that it isn't shiny, and one can see the weave of the fabric. Looks to be out of one of their RS5s that preceded the Overtures. Took it home and discovered that speaker was still down 8-10dB. Back it went for the crossover that I knew was the problem the first time. Did they still have the old and completely fine tweeter. No, they trashed it. Is there a difference in sound now? Maybe a little. Like the one with the new tweeter doesn't have quite the high end "sparkle". Anyway, I was disappointed with the service. But I still love these speakers even though Corey Feldman trashed the entire Overture series once in a review in Audio (wasn't even a review of Overtures, Interludes maybe).

That Corey Feldman !
What ever happened to him. I havent seen any of his reviews or articles in any magazines in a while. Sorry to hear about your fiasco with your repair. I should have demanded Circuit City to replace my speakers in pairs, but it was difficult enough to get them to replace the one... after they repaired the original with a rebuilt amp and a twisted up power cord that was chafed.
