This post is long overdue but may be of interest to anyone searching for info on this fine deck. The 44HX does NOT have user adjustable bias. Instead, it has an auto tuning system that tweeks the bias for the best results. I have owned one of these decks for about 18 months and it is excellent, arguably the best cassette deck Denon ever made. Double capstan, direct drive, digital real time counter, only one belt in the entire deck. That belt drives the supply capstan from the direct drive take-up capstan. I have a bunch of Nakamichis, both lower and higher end, and the Denon holds its own against these world class decks. If you want user adjustable bias, the DR-M33HX is identical to the 44HX in every respect with the exception of it gives you a user adjustable bias tuning knob at the expense of the auto tuning system. Hope this helps.
