Having AM radio only in my Falcon sucks :grumpy:
Does anyone by chance have an old-style two knob AM/FM/cassette that they would like to sell?

I have an AM/FM radio from a mid 80's vintage Honda or Acura. I can't remember if it has a cassette or two knobs. I'll dig it out and take a picture if you are interested.

I looked at the radio, and it has a cassette but only one knob. It is a modern one din package. Here's a picture. The discoloration around the edges of the display look like moisture or something got under the glass.
Tim, you can have it for the cost of shipping.

I owe ya some "karma" for that P3.... I have an older digital formerly TOTL Radio Shack Cassette am/fm with both owners manual AND service manual. 15w + 15 w
I have a Targa am/fm cass I pulled from one of my older cars before it had a date with the crusher. No doc, but the connections are on a label on the top.
very straightforward. 7w + 7w
I have to re-check them to be sure they do work, having sat for a while, but they were working when pulled.

Well, sure, AM blows now after KB went all-talk! :gigglemad Imagine if they'd stayed 60's music... that woulda been like driving in a time warp.

What model Falcon?
My first car that was REALLY mine was a 1964, in that classic Ford Red, Red & White interior. I did the same thing, immediate upgrade to AM/FM/cassette. That was one stylish auto...

The only funky ones set up like that, were on mopars IIRC (chrysler, dodge & plymouth). BTDT....
I know of no Fords that did that...
BTW the Targa checks out ok, 1khz playback is 1022 hz (2.2 percent high...) couldn't find an adjust & not willing to experiment, it does sound ok... It is an auto reverse, with fwd and rev azimuths and dual capstans. Serpentine belt ok. Cleaned and lubed.
Now to the Radio Shack unit.

Found the pics (and acqusition story, BTW) very cool! Mine was a '64, 200 straight Six, three on the tree. Had a tiny tranny, I could roll under, unbolt it, and roll it off my chest onto a blanket and pull it out from under the car. My dad always set the valves for me (I was 18 at the time), I never had a feel for it - he would do it with the engine running. I always carried a box of random spare parts in the trunk, seemed like something was constantly breaking down on the thing, but it WAS SUCH A COOL CAR that I just put up with it. Great old ride, man.

I have an old Pioneer am/fm cassette made to mount under the dash, the tuning dial is round rather than strait across. It also has some flip switches on it.Has anyone seen one like it? :scratch2:

I have an Automatic Radio AM-Fm-Stereo w/8 track from 1976 or so that is an almost exact clone of the Philco-Ford car radios of that time period. Has two knob shafts and knobs. It is an 8 track unit where the tuning dial retracts to insert the 8 track. have not tested it but would be glad to send if you could use it.

The radio shack unit was a letdown, the last digit of the time/freq lcd is a bit flakey as it shows something like an 8 for 3,4,5,6 with 1,2 7,8,9 being ok. There must be a belt in the cassette autoload/eject that is bad, to get to the belt would mean enough of a disassembly that it would more closely resemble an autopsy than a repair. It will do am/fm stereo though.... the external rca's for line in and out were removed and the rear switch permanently (soldered) set for interrnal (future de-oxit point??) as one of the channels was cutting in and out. You almost wouldn't believe how this thing is crammed together inside.
So that is as accurate an assesment as I could do in the intervening time.
If you don't care about the digit or cassette, the radioshack looks cooler and has more power.
The targa is fully functional, including the line out.
I don't have a preference as to which one I am left with......
So if one of them tickles your fancy, shoot me a PM to let me know which one and where/how to ship it to you.

Hey, I have one of those old Becker Mexico Tube radios. Are they collectible? Talk about stuff crammed in there!Must be about a trillion resistors in the space of 4 or 5 inches. Bet it would soufd great working and sent through a nice solid state car stereoamp, if that would be possible.

dash without altering anything and they use your factory radio knobs. They are most often put in Mustangs but your Falcon has the same hole shape.
Look on eBay. They are usually cheap.

There are several options if you "gulp", actually wanted to spend money :sigh:
I like the units that appear to be vintage yet are modern internally, controlling CD changers and whatnot. I found them for Mustangs and T-Birds, but alas no Falcons. They start at around $250, and could not find any on the Bay.

I suppose they see it listed for Mustang and not Falcon and trust the idiots who compile that info. Many of those stereos have the word Mustang on the faceplate.
If this guy actually uses a Falcon for regular transportation he must be flat broke or very unconcerned about his personal safety and the reality of how dangerous a Falcon is in most types of accidents. So, He should look on eBay(look under "Mustang cassette") and get one of those radios for very little money because most people that restore Mustangs would throw such a stereo in the garbage.
The Falcon is certainly a worthwhile very cool car to collect and drive. I just remebered that Falcons made prior to '64 or '65 may have had a different hole in the dash so perhaps my recommendation may not work for you afterall. Sounds like you should hang a nice system under the dash and leave the original in the dash. If you think you will ever sell your car then try to use exsisting holes under the dash to attach brackets.

Yeah, anyone who'd drive a Falcon every day must be a friggin idiot
That guy would be ME, I DO use my Falcon as regular transportation. I am not flat broke, nor do I feel that my car is dangerous to drive. I enjoy the fact that my car is simple, reliable, and any task on this car can be performed with simple tools.

Whats wrong with you dude? Are you a friggen idiot? Are you a typical car-man? They are usuallly known for being con-artists and general friggon idiots.
Can you not sense when someone is trying to add a bit of humor?
How overly sensitive you must be. Are you gay also?
Can you not understand the English language well enough to realize I was being a friend to you by reminding you that your physical well-being is worth alot more than trying to look cool or gay driving a very dangerous car?
I even gave that deathmobile a genuine compliment. I guess you thought I was being sarcastic with that statement... I was not. Most old things are worth preserving for a variety of reasons.
I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and guess you just made a mistake as I have many times. I try to make up for the mistakes I make. If I were to judge by your words alone I would guess you to be one straight-up butt-licker who thinks he is so fucking smart that he can out manuever the world in a very unsafe vehicle.
Good luck
You need one of those little FM-only underdash numbers. I just saw one today. If you want, I will check to see if it is there tomorrow.

It seems you indoor types see anger in words when there is not any.
Kami says he is in the car business and he used foul wording first so, My use of foul words was to hopefully be better understood by him. Any carman I ever met will use foul words anywhere including church, etc.
There is never any anger here!
You guys outa get outdoors some and actually meet with people in person more often. Maybe that would help?

Well, if you'd have used this kind of language on ANY member of this forum, I would ban you. The one thing that's clearly spelled out in the rules here is that you must be respectful of others. Apparently you don't feel this applies to me as well.
Therefore, to treat you in the same fashion if you had taken this tone with anyone else, you are now on the outside looking in. And, since I'm all full up in the radio department per the reciprocal generosity of one of my friends here on AK, this thread is closed, with a happy ending :)
