One of the simple quick meals i make is to take your favorite meat, pork chops or loin, chicken breast or a small steak cut, and put it in a corning lidded style dish with about a half cup of water; add chopped potatos, carrots, celery, green beans (veggie of choice) add onionor garlic and spices to taste if you like and stick in the oven at 350 for an hour. Takes about 10 minutes to make and then you have time to spend with the family. Instead of eating prepared food out of a can you can site down and have a pretty well rounded out meal without all the fuss of cooking three or four different item at once. If you don't like potatos save the juice and add to some Uncle Bens microwaveable brown rice (actually pretty good stuff).
The nice thing is if you leave it in to long it won't burn because of the trapped liquids in the dish.
Also, if you like to grill, slice a large Idaho potato into 1/4" thich strips the long way, coat in olive oil and rosemary and thrown on the barbie. Pretty good way to have spuds when you're grilling.

Heres my recipe for the quickest easiest batchelor meal since my woman left me. 1) One pint Gilbeys London dry gin, with two bottles of good dry pilsner beer. 2) 1 box of macaroni and cheese 3) boil water , and add macaroni.4) forget about the macaroni, and just drink the Gilbeys and the beer.

My quick meal. Frozen Pizza in the microwave. Never as good as the oven but beats the heck out of waiting for a half hour.

A sandwich is the quickest meal I can think of, that or an apple.
Keeping some Chef-boy-Ar-Dee in the cabinet is handy too!

Can of Kidney beans, Can of Black Bean soup, Package of Cheddar Broccoli rice.
Mix the two bean cans, add Cayenne pepper and garlic powder to taste, heat. Prepare the Cheddar Broccoli per package instructions, and serve the soup mix over it in bowls. Add some shredded cheddar and sour cream on top if you like.

Toss a diced chicken breast and a couple cans of chicken broth soup in a pan. Add, as the song says, parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme. Simmer awhile. Take some biscuits in a tube, roll the dough in a ball, toss in the soup and they cook up into nice dumplings. A little salt and pepper and you are good to go.

You should try those fully formed partly uncooked pizza dough crusts that come two in a bag with two pouches of sauce. They cook up pretty nice on a pizza stone. 8 minutes at 400 F and then finish off on broil for 2 minutes to get the cheese golden.
The last toping combination I made used broccoli steamed to "al dente"; onions, several cloves of garlic sauteed in olive oil with salt to taste, mozzarella cheese. When you put the topings on you need to add some salt and pepper or else the pizza tastes bland compared to the kind you get at the restaurant. If you are using some feta cheese, olives etc... you won't need quite as much salt.

Some of those rice dishes combined with meat, such as the one you mentioned or something like arroz con pollo or paella makes some of the most satisfying meals.

Chicken even you can't f**k up
Heat oven to 375F
Arrange a quartered chicken on a baking sheet.
Sprinkle with garlic powder.
Heavily sprinkle with hungarian Paprika (Spanish has no taste).
Put the chicken in the oven and put on side one of any 90 minute cassette.
When the cassette stops, take the chicken out of the oven and serve with rice.
Rice-
If you don't know how to cook it, don't bother, you'll f**k it up. Go to your local chinese take-out joint and spend half a buck on rice.

Ramen!!!!!!!!
Put some frozen mixed vegetables in a pot with 2 cups of water. Put the Ramen noodles in there with the flavoring. Boil for 3 minutes or until the vegetables are tender.
While that's cooking, defrost some frozen, precooked shrimp by running cold water over it in a bowl in the sink.
When the veggies and ramen are done, add the shrimp. You can drain the excess water off, or eat it as a soup.
You can substitute cooked meat or veggie crumbles for the shrimp. Takes about 10 minutes to make.

Everybody has to be a mook. Look, single or married there is no excuse to eat badly. Buy a crock pot. Large, medium and a small. Receipes are abundant, tasty and healthy. You simply can't screw them up. And there's usually enough for leftovers. So, a microwave is also a necessity. For summer, buy a damn gas grill. Enough said.

Yep! Zatarains rocks! I use a similar recipe recipe, except I use 1/2 pound of smoked sausage and a can of mild Rotel, drained, instead of diced tomatoes, and cook it stovetop. Try it, it is very tasty.
Back in my starving, poor days, there were many a night when a package of Kraft shells and cheese with either baby peas or a can of tuna mixed in filled my stomach.

Stop on the way home and pick up a pound of fresh (US produced!) shrimp, a loaf of some fancy Italian bread, and a frozen veggie of your choice. While water boils for shrimp and the veggie simmers, make a cocktail sauce of ketchup, horseradish, lemon juice and worcheshire sauce. Boil shrimp, chill them, heat the bread and butter it and dig in. Beer goes well with this by the pint(non alcaholic for me :sigh: ). A nice variation of this recipe is 2 pounds of shrimp, but it requires more boiling water, sauce, beer and recovery time on the couch listening to tunes.

God, you guys are scary, not to mention gourmet deprived.
To start, put on a CD (need not be Italian). Get out 4-6 quart pot and fill with water. Salt water and put pot on burner turned to high. Take out large frying or saute pan, put on burner turned to low. Chop choice of veges (onions, peppers, a minced garlic clove, or whatever you like) and/or meat. Turn saute pan to medium high and add oil. Decide on variety of pasta, add to water when it starts to boil (set timer for recommended pasta time or check time started). Take veges and quickly stir fry in saute pan (add your choice of herbs and maybe a little balsamic vinegar), don't overcook. When timer rings check pasta. Empty into a collander placed in sink. Return pasta to pot, add olive oil. Dish pasta into bowls and add sauted stuff. Top with freshly grated parmesan and serve with a red wine. Total time about 30 minutes. It's better than going to a good Italian place, cheaper, and almost infinitely variable. In the summer if you have "good" fresh tomatoes, dice, add a little balsamic vinegar, olive oil, and minced fresh basil and you don't even have to saute.
Bon appetite.

Gosh we've got some real gor-mets here :) .
"Cream tuna fish" - medium white sauce, seasoned to taste (I'm a fresh black pepper guy), lightly stir in a can of tuna, and pour over broken toast.
A veritable feast.

Best Chicken Sandwich:
I rub extra virgin olive oil on my skinless chicken breasts and use sea salt, cracked black pepper, garlic powder, creole seasoning and let it marinade for a few hours. grill chicken breasts on the barbie (do not poke the bird whilst its cookin) Get a good Kaiser roll and grill. When the chicken is done let it rest (uncut) for 5 minutes or so under a tinfoil hood. By not cutting into the chicken while it is cooking and letting it rest after taking it off of the grill you are keeping the juices IN the chicken. By letting the chicken rest for 5 minutes or so you are redistributing the said juices in the chicken breast so that it does not all run out upon your first cut. Cut breast on the bias in 1-11/2 inch strips. I than stack a leaf of Romain lettuce, the chicken breast 1/2 of a sliced avacodo and top it with tomatillo (green) salsa. MMMMMMMM enjoy.
