It was between this and a Magnavox CDP. I know I know the Pioneer is an Audio CD recorder/player but it won out because I had a musician friend of mine that had one in his home studio and I remember liking the way it did playback. As always GW didn't have the remote :thumbsdn:

Anyone have recording experience with this one?

No personal experience, but I just got off the phone with this guy yesterday:

Talking Dog Transducer Company
336 East Fort Lowell, Suite 101
Tucson, Arizona 85705
(505) 410-4951
bk11@thuntek.net

His name is Stephen and he fixes and mods CDPs, CDRs and DVDs for CDP purposes mainly. He told me to keep an eye out for the Pioneer PDR-04 and PDR-05 CDR's because they are selling for next to nothing on eBay and are some of the BEST sounding CDP's you can buy. No kidding!

Let us know how it sounds as a CDP, I'm real interested.

Thanks for that info.

Hooked it up my my Marantz receiver last night. Wow!

My memory was right on. First off it plays CD's upside down like my other vintage Pioneer changer. The transport is silky smooth and very well built. Takes a while for it to recognize the disc as a playback not bad enough to care. The sound IS crystal clear all over the spectrum. The soundstage and dynamics are there but if you are looking for a very musical(colored) player look elsewhere. I'm gonna hang on to this baby for a long time. :music:
