I had to send off a few turntables I'd sold on eBay, and I was having trouble deciding how to pack them without the original boxes etc. Then inspiration struck - I used lemonade and cola bottles to fill the voids, and they work really well if you keep the caps on. If you squeeze them and put the cap back on they can be made to fit a lot of awkward spaces, you can tape them in place to stop them moving about, and they are not messy like polystyrene chips. I've lost count of the number of turntables I've bought which have suffered damage to the cover in transit, but the ones I've sent out have been arriving in perfect condition as far away as Switzerland and Italy. One of my better ideas!

Great idea. I will give this a try. I can see some dipshit throwing a unit into a box of soda bottles like they do peanuts, however.

These are OK if the package does not get mishandled and damaged in transit. As soon as the shipping company sees plastic pop bottles, they will refuse to pay an insurance claim. Much better to use quality packing materials. I've shipped a few dozen turntables using 2" styroboard as the main packing material, along with heavy duty bubble wrap, and there's never been any damage.

Great idea. You should mention the bottles should be emptied first.

Now he tells me! :D
