Anyone using these Infinity Speakers?

In my country they have gathered quite a cult following, with quite a few people pairing them with single ended (2A3) power. My friends have invited Naim lovers over and the speed and sheer bass attack of these combination definitely has converted a few of 'em.

I've fallen in love with these speakers and have heard nothing at any price that can do what this combination of SET power and Primus 360 does.

I feel that sometimes that price is the problem and some might think that at the price that it retails for it cant possibly beat speakers that cost so much more...

Trust me Wil, there won't be any flames around here!

Your opinion as well as all others, pro or con regarding Infinity speakers are welcome here.

But trolls will be put into our site catapult and launched by David and myself or our ever watchful Mod Squad ;)

I'm not all that familiar with the Primus 360's I need to do some homework there.

In the US, they only come in black. They did get a complimentary review in one of the mags recently (Stereophile?)

Yep, the Primus 360 was reviewed by Stereophile in June 2005. Just click this link (http://www.stereophile.com/budgetcomponents/605infinity/index.html) to read it.

The Stereophile conclusion reads (inter alia):

"...the Primus 360 should provide you with long-term, plug-and-play, trouble-free enjoyment of music and home theater programming..."

Sounds like a product AKers will like, and a future vintage score. I wish I'd remembered this review when I was writing the 'old and new' thread.

I know all about the Primus 360 from conversations with Sean Olive, Infinity's director of subjective listening.
It was designed by Infinity's best engineer, and Sean was, and is, very excited about it.
According to him, it has "the curve"!
The "curve" being something they learned at the NRC in Canada that makes a speaker sound great.
According to Sean, it's curve is about as perfect as one can get in a production speaker!
I can also tell you that Infinity has spent 100.000.00 for a cabinet resonance analyzer, and the version 2 of the 360 will be even better.
Oh Shit, I wasnt supposed to tell anybody, Shhh...

I'm still skeptical - I've heard the Beta 50 which is the Infinity's corresponding model (biggest floorstander) in its line above the Primus 360. It was harsh and brittle and I just couldn't see buying it even though the price, specs, and appearance made it appear to be a great value.

How can the lower cost Primus 360 from the same company sound that much better? Has anyone did a comparision listen?

I guess synergy is in question then. I've heard it paired up with a normal SS integrated and it sounded horrid. Like you said whiteall, brittle and thin. But its a different sound altogether on my SET amp. Dynamic, warm and with detail in spades.

Saw the Primus 250 today at the store. Gave it the knuckle rap test and it was very solid and non-resonant - good signs. Much better than thesimilar-sized Polk next to it or the Beta 50 nearby.
Maybe they are worth a listen.

$200.00/pair on circuitcity.com until this coming Saturday. I am very, very tempted.

I've got a pair of 360's mated to a Dared 300B amp in my bedroom system that I've been getting to know for the past 2 months, and so far I'm loving them. This set-up has handled anything I've thrown at is so far with nary a sign of any bad behavior. No matter the listening level, the sound has always been clean, warm, never congested. In particular, I am constantly amazed at the quantity and extension of the bass that this combo delivers, and I've had it cranked up several times with some rock and heavy jazz stuff.

Regarding using SS with these speakers, I did do a brief test using my well seasoned Adcom GFA-555II. The bass was definitely tighter and more controlled (as expected with 200 watts a side), the treble a bit brighter than the Dared (but not objectionably so), but that combo imaged like MAD!! I could, in fact, be quite happy with that combo, but I do like the warmer, sweeter midrange of the tubes.

Hi, I have had the 360's for a few months now and I really like the fast transient response of the drum and strings. I have them mated with a Harman Kardon 3480 receiver 120 watts per channel and the mid range seems to be very present on some tunes which could be also due to the cd production but for the money I am pleased. I have an equalizer connected to boost just the highest end of the spectrum because my ears are losing high end sensitivity. The Stereophile review mentioned some cabinet resonance around a certain range but I don't really notice it.
