I love the bean. Nice machine. I am sure you will enjoy every sip. Weekend mornings, great coffee and great music- it doesn't get better.

Just in case you haven't gotten this far in reading the manual...
Do NOT try to remove the infuser (the part with the red thumb & finger buttons) while the power is on. You will cause significant damage.
Nice machine! Pulls great shots. When you start to get creative, try making espresso with something other than espresso roast. Sumatra makes terrific espresso!
Have fun!

What a machine! Looks nothing like my cappachino/ expresso standard spout type by "Krups". Will it do Cappacino? I dont see a spout.

I would visit their website to answer your questions. I'm not a coffee nut as my partner is.....He is the one who bought it. I'm now learning all about this stuff, so please tell me other options like you mentioned Clay! I was fine with the coffee machine to the left and grinding some organic beans from Washington state. I like STRONG brew !

I weird people out with how strong I make my Cup O Joe's. I buy my beans at Cafe Java down the street from where I live. They have lots to choose from, but I almost always head back for the 100% Columbian and of course, grind it myself.

And I thought making espresso with Sumatra was my private secret!
Actually, any of the lower-acid heavy-bodied Indonesian coffees respond well to this treatment. You might think twice before you subject lighter roast high mountain coffees to it though, unless you don't mind being known as Speedy.
And since you're in the Bay area you're in the heart of roast-your-own. Sweet Maria's (used to be in Emeryville but I think they're in Oakland now) is Mecca for home roasters. They've got a website: http://www.sweetmarias.com/
You can even roast your own beans with a hot air popcorn popper with very satisfactory results. See http://members.shaw.ca/espressomio/poptwo.html.

I spent several hours doing demonstrations with the Magnifica during our big Brewing Event over the last few weeks. I was quite impressed with it.
It will brew coffee, one cup at a time, by putting one scoop of ground coffee in the top center opening.
The brew strength control (mild, medium, strong, extra-strong) is for the shots of espresso. Generally, you should just leave it on extra-strong. This doesn't actually make it "stronger", it simply doesn't dilute the shots with additional water. "Extra-strong" actually means "Normal". The other settings make the shots gradually weaker.
Enjoy your new toy!

While I'm a fan of strong coffee, I'm not a big espresso fan. However, recently Starbucks has offered and Espresso Bold Coffee, which I've ordered several times. It is quite good. My fav. is their Komodo Dragon blend, but the espresso is quite good, as is their French Roast.
