I'm thinking of trying Smaller Advents as the front speakers in a 5.1 set-up. Any suggestions on a good matching speaker for the center? I'm hoping to buy used for $150 or less. Thanks.

I too had this idea about 2 years ago. I actually bought a triple set of Advent 3s for my front right/left/center. Actually I bought a pair, then saw a single on ebay, and snatched it up.
Two years later, I still haven't tried them in my HT. But I will very soon. This week, I was ordering some capacitors to recap a set of AR speakers I have, and decided to go ahead and order caps for the 3 Advents. Once recapped, I'll try them in my HT.
If I decide not to keep or use them, are you interested?

JD,
Thanks, but I'm trying to make do with what I have. I'd use another smaller advent, but it would have to sit on top of the TV-- just too little WAF there.

Until recently I had Smaller Advents as front mains. They sounded very good there. My center speaker, a Polk CS1, wasn't much of a match (it was a gift) and I was never quite happy with the setup.
A couple weeks ago I completed a pair of DIY speakers (http://s14.photobucket.com/albums/a327/Hi_Ho/Speaker%20Project/) using Dayton Reference series drivers from PartsExpress. I was very impressed with them. So much so that I made them the front mains. I now have a Smaller Advent front and center.
I am amazed at how well they match. The Advent, being an inefficient 4 OHM speaker, has to be cranked up quite a bit to level match the new mains but once that's done there is a surprisingly good tonal match.
If you can DIY, I would definetely recommend it. If you don't want to, my recomendation is to listen to as many possible center speakers as you can and see which one sounds best.

Nice DIY work indeed HI HO. Im glad they sound as nice as they look.
(BTW, I'm guessing you are an even bigger fan of Vonnegut than I)
