View Full Version : Can anyone help me please....
Dsrttuber 04-17-2006, 01:44 PM I recently bought an Almarro 318A amplifier through a dealer here in AZ. Little did I know that the dealer was selling me a factory demo that he never paid for nor had the right to sell to the public. My version of the popular amp has bias pots inside of the amp only accessible by removing the bottom plate. There are no bias check points on top of the amp as on the consumer edition. I've contacted Hiro at Almarro numerous times with the promise of help. Hiro has yet to come through and I can't say I blame him due to the nature of the amp. I'm stuck without a warranty as well.
I'm not a complete dummy so I can work a voltmeter and am aware of the high voltages present. Can someone point me to the tube pins that I nead to measure voltage across on this amp? I love this amp and I hate to have to sell it to someone else who can't bias it. Thanks for any help.
Nakdoc 04-17-2006, 02:15 PM Send a copy of your sales receipt and check -credit card to the manufacturer. This is proof of purchase, and proof of warranty. The manufacturer has no claim against you, and is behaving like babies. They need to sue the dealer for what every the need, and take care of you! Your state consumer affairs department will help if you need to escalate.

I do have the receipt and I did pay by credit card. The manufacturer did offer to sell me a new amp at dealer's cost. ??? The manufacturer did admit sending several demo units to the dealer and completely forgetting about it. The dealer claims he tried to send the demos back but Almarro wouldn't send a call tag. What a crappy experience. Almarro claims I have no warranty. I'd just like to be able to bias this thing and enjoy it.
goldear 04-18-2006, 05:24 AM Bias procedures are pretty similar for most amps. You will need to measure the idle current on the tubes by measuring the voltage across the cathode resistors.
Bias current may be determined using ohms law.

OK...so I am a dummy. :D Was that English you spoke above? Almarro seems to measure bias off the tube pins in there manual. ??? They have two pins with probe holes in them under each output tube. My amp being a demo; does not have these pins. Anyone have pics of a cathode resistor in place? Thanks for the help so far. :)
Dsrttuber 04-19-2006, 11:49 PM Well Almarro finally came through with bias instructions. Thank you Hiro!!! :music:
PakProtector 04-20-2006, 06:10 AM Hey-Hey!!!,
Any news of the warranty?
cheers,

NOSValves 04-20-2006, 11:08 AM If my memory serves they had some serious problems with these first demo units. I say take them up on the offer to sell you a new unit for dealer cost. I believe the biasing is the tip of the ice berg with these units. Again if memory serves me correctly.

The amp sounds awesome. I'll bias today to see how far off it is. What kind of problems were experienced?
Still no warranty and I can't blame the manufacturer.

Glad to hear things are looking up with this amp but your last statement just floors me. The dealer acting as the "agent" for Almarro sold you the amp and you bought it in good faith. Almarro should be honouring their warranty and if they have any issues it is with their dealer.

Hiro at Almarro told me that since he received no payment from the dealer; it's as if the amp was never sold....in so many words. I'm not real business savvy and I did get the amp at a steal. I really don't know if I should push the issue.

Dsrttuber 04-20-2006, 09:29 PM OK....biased the amp but one output tube will not bias to within specs. Do I need a new tube? Almarro recommends less than .18v DC and the one tube will only bias down to .24v DC. Thanks!

See my post above............

I did but you were going by recollection that not even you were sure of. Is there any danger in running these tubes a little hot? One was at .50v DC and still working fine. ???
P.S. I switched the output tubes and rebiased. The problem follows the one output tube. This would seem to point out the tube at fault and not the amp circuitry.
