View Full Version : Thrift shop music
millerdog 05-15-2003, 02:04 AM I swear, Herb Albert must the richest musician around. I see more of his records than any other. Damn! I even saw RTR tapes of his for sale. Next is George Benson's Breezin. Gotta be the most popular jazz album ever sold!
What other LPs do you guys regularly come across?
Oh, I forgot to mention the Jane Fonda work out LP! Seems everywhere I go there's at least three or four copies:rolleyes:
del1225 05-15-2003, 08:52 AM I quite often have a look in the records at Thirft Shops and Markets. Got a couple of Bill Cosby LP's + a Samantha Fox EP :D last time. I also find alot Richard Simons & Engelbert Humperdinck which doesnt interest me at all :puke:
javap111 05-15-2003, 02:38 PM Down here in South Florida, I find MANY copies of the following everywhere:
Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass
Mitch Miller
Montavanni
Jim Nabors
and many others I can't think of right now.
nukemicrosoft 05-21-2003, 02:22 AM Hey,
There's this one album with Barbara Streisand and Kris Kristoferson (sp?), I don't know the name of it, but there were so many copies at the local sally ann one time that I actually put one copy of it at the front of every row of records (and there were about 30 rows at that point!). I felt quite artistic; it was a statement on so many levels, and it also made for an awe-inspiring display of their (lack of) selection!
millerdog 05-21-2003, 02:24 AM Would that be the often seen copy of "A Star is Born?":D
grumpy 05-21-2003, 07:34 AM I see more King and I sound tracks then any others followed very closely by Ole Herbie boy :bash:
millerdog 05-23-2003, 06:18 AM How about Christmas LPs, the Carpenters being the most often seen:)
JoZmo 05-23-2003, 07:26 AM I see lots of Ray Conniff around here. I'm not even sure who he was. I think he led a band that played easy listening stuff.
Anyway the bins are full of his stuff, not something I would buy.
And then there is the ubiquitious (25 cent word, my 10th. grade English teacher would be proud of me :D ) Peter Paul and Mary, In the Wind album that was a must have for every folkie.
millerdog 05-23-2003, 07:41 AM Joz, your avatar is making me hungry!
Lefty 05-27-2003, 08:50 PM Well I bought over 700 LPs at thrifts over the last5-6 years. I do agree that the all time most frequently see is:
Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, The man sold some LPs!
One artist that I really like was also very common, Linda Ronstadt. I think I was able to collect her complete LP works in pretty short order...

Andyman 05-27-2003, 09:51 PM Lefty:
I hear you on Linda Ronstadt; I just picked up the "Living in the USA" picture disc for $0.25 and "Prisoner in Disguise" for $0.33, both in very nice condition. I really like her earlier stuff; I'm looking for "Hasten Down the Wind" now, as well as some stone Poneys stuff. It must be a retro SoCal rock thing, like her, Eagles, Jackson Brown, etc.
Maybe we should have a contest for who can score the most Herb Alpert in a weekend; the man is everywhere!
millerdog 05-28-2003, 02:18 AM :lmao:
Maybe if we all go out and buy all the Herb Albert we can, we can drive the price up? Damn, then we'd all be sitting pretty:D
del1225 05-28-2003, 10:00 AM I knew I shouldn't have bought Herb Alpert's "Rise" on CD :gigglemad
del1225 05-29-2003, 08:53 AM Visted the local thrift shop again today and noted that Neil Diamond is like Herb Alpert.. A Very Rich Man :saywhat:
