Got a call today from my ad in the paper, This lady has a Sony 3000R.
She is the original owner and claims that Sony only made 1000 of these, Each one with a brass tag that states the production number from 1 to 1000, Hers is around 280.
Also says it has motorized doors in front of cabinet and 30" screen. Retail was 8000.00 in the early eighties.(1981?) Also claims it is around 600 pounds!
I barely remember something about these, Maybe saw one in a Highland appliance store or something, Can anyone out there shed some light on the history of this set?

those are nice,i went to a sony training seminar for those,it was the sony's first 30"set and all kinda of bells and whistles, sony told us there was 10,000 made but maybe he meant 1000,but i got to set one up and repair another one here in wisconsin, nice cabinet,we were told the cabinets were made out of japanese cherry or ash,it also came with a matching vcr and tape storage cabinet,it took 4 big guys to carry it from unpacking outside to customers house,i think it had 2 tuners, and yes the doors were motorized..,it was also their first stereo tv with a decent amp and speaker arangement,i think i still have the service data from the early 80's on it,i think i was like only 21,and still in tech school..
very nice set though.. go for it..they had a list price of $10,000.00,
yes i am serious!!

Wow! that sounds like a cool set! She wants to get around 200.00 for it, But since she needs the room and wants it out I should be able to get it cheaper than that, Heck, It doesn't work anyway! The tube is probably shot now after all those years.
I will try to get it but doubt that I can keep it if it is that heavy and hard to move. Is anyone interested?

captinamoody..once you see the set you will want it .. even for 200.00,parts are still available for it,the crt is about 800.00 the last time i checked in 1998,hopefully the cabinet is in great shape, the finish is something i have never seen on anything.. even to this day,it almost looks like marble..i could be interested but that is about the heaviest set i have seen, you would need to feed a bunch of big guys a lot of beer and watch their faces turn red carrying it..i could never find room for it,a set like that should go to maybe steve mcvoys ..:)

Well, I saw the set and I am going to buy! I was very impressed with the cabinet alone, The finish is like glass!
Never thought I would stumble upon another limited run very high end set, But I did. The pickup will be Saturday, Moving it will be tough as heavy as it is though, And I am not looking forward to it.
I will post pics as soon as I get it home.
