A few months ago I found a great deal on an old Sony PVM-3230 professional video monitor (32" CRT) for my bedroom.

Right now my VCR is on the first line input and the DVD is on #2. There are two other inputs that I'd like to make use of but they aren't std RCA/SVHS style.

The VCR input uses a connector shaped like a green lego block. I've seen it on pro VCRs but I don't know where to get a cable that will work with it (either composite or S-video)

The other input is RGB. I'd either like to attach my PS2 or my ancient Panasonic HDTV box to it. The HDTV receiver has component vid and SVHS out (which I know aren't directly compatible with RGB).

There's also a digital RGB input but that was designed for ancient computer video (not sure of scan rates but probably EGA/CGA)

You could try a component to RGB breakout cable.Does the 3230 have RGB,H and V sync,or just RGB and sync?

The analog RGB input is just the three colors (BNC connectors of course). Isn't the standard for this style of input "sync on green"?

I didn't know that there was a converter cable for component->RGB.

Does anybody know what the special VCR connector is called? Here's a pic

This set doesn't have an external sync,my opologies.I had a front projector that I used the breakout cable with, but it had H and V sync along with thr RGB.Maybe you could pose this question on the AVS forum.Someone is bound to chime in.

That green connector is for professional VTRs (video tape recorders) that used a different connector. My PVM-2030 has the same one. Here's an example of how it's connected.

As a sidenote, how do you like the picture quality on the 3230?

I'll check out the forums later this week. Hopefully they will have a line on the mysterious green VTR connector.

Thanks for the manual link.

As for pic quality, I haven't tried to fine tune the image so I can't really comment other than its better than the old Zenith 32" TV I used to have. Mind you that ain't saying much considering the crappy picture tubes they used back in the early 90s.
