View Full Version : Great Budget Cables!

After reading the thread about Zebra Cables I thought I'd pass along another great "budget" cable company -- BlueJean Cables -- at www.bluejeancables.com.

As a former cable skeptic and cheapskate, I had to eat some crow when I finally broke down and tried these "audiophile" cables! They make superb interconnects as well as speaker wire, and I was indeed able to hear an improvement over my Home Depot speaker wire and generic interconnects. It wasn't a night-and-day thing; just a subtle, pleasurable enhanced sense of the music's immediacy, vibrancy, and energy.

Anyway, BlueJean Cables uses the same Belden cable as Zebra does for interconnects, albeit with different connectors; the BlueJeans are 30-40% less expensive.

BlueJeans uses Belden and Canare for their speaker cables and, again, prices seem less expensive than Zebra's comparable cables.

I have no affiliation with BlueJean. I'm just a satisfied customer.

Enjoy!

Have you compared the Blue Jeans cable with the Zebra cable? Just curious.

All cables have different price points and - presumably - the more $ you spend, the more sonic nirvana (or whatever) you'll get.

Would be interesting to know where the law of diminishing returns kicks in. Even that, however raises questions like is it that the cables don't resolve more, or that it hits the limits of the systems ability to show the changes, etc.

GaryP, I have not compared the two at all. Until I read the Zebra thread I had actually forgotten that I have budget audiophile cables! I just listen to music, if you know what I mean. But in reading the Zebra thread and checking out their website I remembered that BlueJeans uses similar Belden cable fo rthe interconnects. So I checked their website and unless I'm mistaken both products use the same cable. So unless there are significant differences in the sonic attributes of the connectors each company chooses, the BlueJeans Cable is the better deal. BlueJeans also offers a wider range of speaker cables, including Canare Star Quad cables for bi-wiring. Their regular 10 gauge cables also look to be cheaper than Zebra's comparable cable. I do not know if BlueJeans offers a trial period.

Enjoy looking!

All pocketbooks being equal, I would guess that the law of diminishing returns is system dependant. For example, if you have very high end components, the $500.00 cable is clearly superior to the $100.00 cable and worth the $ difference. If you have a mid range system, you may hear the difference but the difference is not that significant and the extra cost is simply not worth it. If you have a lower end system, the sound difference is NOT worth the difference in cost.

From what I know of this hobby (that can drive you insane ;) ), materials (including insulation, multi or single strand copper, silver, copper coated with silver, etc) can make a significant difference in cables - interconnects and speaker wire.

So I guess what I am trying to say is that for the Blue Jeans and Zebra cables, the build of the cable could make a difference!

Another outstanding source for very high quality and semi affordable internconnects and wires is www.knukonzeptz.com

The owner is a great guy and he sells very well built durable cables.
