like a home audio component? I have lots of black gear so i could probably get awat with a rackmount piece, but where to find them, all i seem to come across are the stackable rack things that just look ugly and have that stupid big a** door on the front.

Thanks for any info

You can poke around at SilverStone (http://www.silverstonetek.com/) for some ideas. Click the "OEM/ODM" picture for more.

I bought a black 4u rackmount w/handles from servercase.com. Take the door off(2 screws),I hate'em,too..It looks pretty business-like without the door.I'm getting another from them just like it.The fan is noisy in a lot of these,I had to put a quiet one and a speed control in.Went with a Zalman 400B PS,I may go fanless this time. But the front case fan had to go.Also watch the overall depth of the case. For me rack'em is the only way to go!
*Just saw the silverstone line-LC17 is nice :thmbsp:

Since this thread asked about possible DIY cases, I will show you my DIY media server that matches my home audio gear:

jimmy, i did read aout it, but the problem is i have no need for that lcd display and touch pannel, my computers all have to talk for me to use them since i can't see the screens, which also rules out windows media edition. Hell i could just do something with one slot load cd dvd rom drive, a power button, and a remote eye from the ati video card i have in mind as it can interface with winamp with no configuration, so thats probably what i'll do..though then i need a place for a crapload of harddrives.

Thanks for the links, if all else fails the silverstone one will probabl make it into the rack but..its so tall!

ANTEC NSK2400 looks like an audio component. Especially if some kind of VFD is installed. The tricky part would be to cut out plastic bay cover to use laptop dvd drive instead of using standard 5" desktop DVD drive.

I know the guy who built that mod, that's what I do for a living, build custom machines for people to suit their needs. If you want, PM me, I can probably build you a rig to match your system perfectly.

There's lots of them. Here (http://www.atechfabrication.com/HTPC_cases.htm) is a link that someone recently pointed me to, but supposedly they're kind of expensive. Just look for PC cases at most of your favourite retail outlets. They all have HT oriented cases now.

Search that auction site for "HTPC case" (home theater PC). There are usually quite a few up for bid. In addition to Antec & Silverstone, look for Ahanix & Lian-Li. They make some excellent ones.
