yesterday i went to a record swap and bought my first jazz and my first vinal. i have had a record player for about 2 years now but have never owned any vinal. anyway i was wondering if any of you jazz afficenodos could tell me how i did. i got 4 cd's for 15$ the guy who sold them to me had them priced at 21 dollers but said he had to much jazz and was trying to move it so he gave it to me for 15. i figure he plans to drop the price so this is really about what its worth and that is ok, i am not after how much it is worth, but how i did form a musical standpoint, so here is what i got

first i have two dave brubeck albems

the first is "dave brubeck quartet" - angle eyes

i listend to jazz on NPR every friday night last summer at work and know that some people know ever bandmember by name so i will lest them also

it has dave brubeck on piano, paul desmond on alto sax, Eugene Wright, on bass and Joe Morello, on drums

i havent gave this one a listen yet, as it takes a long time to listen to a new album especially in a category your not compleatly use to, and i dont want to short chang any of these albums

the second brubeck album is " dave brubeck and jay and kai" - at newport

this says its a live recording from the 1956 newport jazz festival made by columbia, its part of a 4 album series and on one side is the dave burbeck quartet featuring paul desmond, and on the other side is J.J. Johnson - Kai Winding qintet

it dosnt list the indivdule proformers of each quintent

i also havent listend to this one

the next one is "the george benson quartet featuring lonnie smith on the organ" - the george benson cookbook

i listend to this one a few times and liked it

finally and bestly in my opinion i have "blue note live at the roxy"

this is a complalaiton album im guess put out by blue note to show off some of there acts it has

side one - alphonse mouzon and carmen mcrae
on side two - carmen macrae and ronnie laws
on side three - ronnie laws
on side four - Earl Klugh blue note all stars and donald byrd (who was recoreded live in central park

im listening to side 1 and 4 of that (strnagly its 1 and 4 , 2 and 3 on the disks?)

i really like it

anyway sorry for the long post just excited about finally getting some jazz and some vinal and thought i would ask for some expert opinions feel free to tell me they suck if they do, im learning about this jazz stuff and wont take any of it to hart ;]

thanks again

If you like them its a total score. Even if you don't they are wonderful albums. And I'm sure you'll enjoy them for what they are.

What he said! :)

First, there is no bad Brubeck! I have both those lp's and enjoy them a lot.
It is really nice to have a full sized cover of Angel Eyes. 4 or so bucks a pop from a retail seller is very good for nice vinyl. Used jazz gets a better price than other types of music. Demand I guess. Classic jazz on vinyl is very warm and wonderful. I would like to hear the "blue note live at the roxy".
Some nice sounding titles.
Pass on the Benson, he just isn't my cup of tea.
Enjoy!

This is when people (like me) would put both LPs on a stacker spindle and play the songs in order: 1 then 2, then flip the pair and play 3 then 4:)
The LPs only suck if YOU think they suck. Musical taste is up to the listener... no matter what anyone else says.
