There is no place for am or sw:) . Well latly thats been mostly it but I use MP3 on my "putter" with an Audicy sound card hooked up to a 10 year old Onkyo TX 901 with AR PS216 for the sound. Not a whole lot of bass but the AR really kick for their size

Hi All!! I just like to say that I started out many years ago listening to records. Then from there I went to reel to reel and also to cassette (to make tapes for the car). About 15 years ago I went into CD's. All my other equipment (such as the TT, R-T-R and the casstte) are collecting dust. The Cd is so much more enjoyable due to the fact that it holds 110+1 and when it's on random you never know whats playing next. My system consists of a Sansui AU-G99X Amp. A Sansui TU-9900 tuner. Rectiliniear III Lowboys and a Technics Cd player. Thanks for reading. Tony G

Hi Tony,

I bought my first CD and player in 1986. I continued to use cassette tapes for awhile but now I strictly listen to CD's. Been that way for years now. I have a sizable collection of cassettes too. Several cases collecting dust. Rarely listen to them anymore.

Same thing happened with my LP's. Rarely listened to them and they just sat around for years. Roughly 6 months ago I got into them again. Bought another TT and tons more LP's. It's been fun. That's why I love this hobby. Always something new to discover. Next, I would really like to get into R to R.

Welcome Tony. Y'all come back now, y'hear.

My main souce is CD, but only because of the convinence and the fact that just about all recent (10years) music only comes on CD. Otherwise I prefer the sound of vinyl.

Re: "4000 MP3's"

I was on a computer hardware forum one day and a young fellow wrote that he had 73 Gb of MP3's and needed a second hard disk but was unclear as how to do the install.

Another member chipped in with 73Gb!! That's gotta be like 20000 songs ! :jawdrop:

A third guy chimed in and said "Or maybe a couple of Moody Blues Albums "

(re: 73 gigs)

... or one early Yes track! :D

As for sources here: In the den system:

CD
LaserDisk
VHS
DVD
Beta
CED Videodisk
Turntable
AM/FM
Cable TV

We use all of them, too! No joke, even the CED player and Beta VCR!

In the living room:

Turntable
Cassette
CD
VHS
AM/FM

In here, usually only the turntable gets much use. This is the room where the 1200+ LP records are shelved...

Regards,
Gordon.

That reminds me. I have a ton of those freaky CED's that I need a player for or I need to get rid of

Actually, it's a modest 18.5 GBs on a 30 GB drive so I'm still hunting for more!!

It took 6 hrs to back it up yesterday on my HP 8 Gb DAT. That was unusually slow because I forgot to un-click the "compress if possible" option.

At least I have a backup. :)

PS: They are sharable - but I don't publish the IP. Any AK members are welcome to PM me for details.

Grumpy, if you wanna get rid of any of those CED disks thrift-store and/or Ebay-price cheap (as in like a buck or so each :D ), PM me... might be inclined to take a few off your hands...

Regards,
Gordon.

Your choices did not include a very good source of music ....

XM Satellite Radio ... Digital 100 channel music with little or no commercials or talk.

After listening to XM Satellite digital radio, you won't want to tune in another commercial FM radio station. Thats a fact.

1 - FM I like this one classic rock channel alot:)
2 - VINYL Sure they snap, crackle and pop but just listen.
3 - Cd The ultimate in HI FI sound?
4 - MP3 Why not when they are free?
5 - Cassette My last choice since they will fail in time.
