View Full Version : Guess what numbnuts did?
BeerCan 05-10-2006, 08:33 PM I cooked a rotisserie chicken for dinner. Well I brought it in the house to cut it up. I accidentally put it on the cutting board upside down, so what did I do? I put my right hand on the rotisserie bar handle and I put my left hand . . . yup you guessed it. I grabbed the fing hot rotisserie with my left hand a burned the hell out of my thumb and first 2 fingers. My daughter who watched the whole thing said to me -- "gee dad that was dumb" -- no shit little girl, no shit I thought to my self. Maybee if it gets nasty looking I will take a pic of my latest gaf :tears:
luvvinvinyl 05-10-2006, 08:38 PM Experience is what you get, right after you need it.
I hope your wound heals quickly, and without complications.
devoid 05-10-2006, 08:39 PM Ya gotta be carefull in the kitchen it can be a dangerous place. Hope the chicken was yummy.
Fishstink 05-10-2006, 10:29 PM You probably shouldn't try slicing tomatoes or chopping onions.
OvenMaster 05-11-2006, 06:54 AM Sorry to hear this.:( Must hurt like hell. Reminds me of the time I pulled a hot pan out of the oven at the kitchen I worked in with a potholder that had a hole where the thumb and palm met. I walked ten feet wondering what the sizzling noise was... it was my hand. You can imagine the scream when the pain kicked in, I think.
Get better soon, BeerCan.

fotno 05-11-2006, 07:16 AM Sorry to hear 'bout that BeerCan, sounds like something I'd do... Heck, sounds like something I've done!
ozmoid 05-11-2006, 09:38 AM I worked as a "fry cook" in a short-order grill for 4 years. I can't count the number of times I've laid a fingertip or knuckle on the grill top, or put my hand under the spatula to help lift a sandwich and found out just how HOT that thing gets!
Take care of those fingers!

Beercan, aren't kids great?
BeerCan 05-20-2006, 11:09 PM Not my month I guess. Now my fingers are alright, but I tweaked my knee playing hockey and tonight . . . get this . . . I fell off the couch. I was not laying on it either. I just fell off the end -- sober.

I get days like that more often than I'd like. If i can get through a day without cutting myself, hitting my head on something, walking into a doorway(not through), rebounding off of the hallway wall, getting attacked by the cat, stubbing my toes, or dropping something heavy on my foot I consider it a good day. :stupid: :bash: :headscrat:
Sandy G 06-06-2006, 09:49 AM Paper cuts. How the hell can these things happen? Why do they hurt SO bad a day or 2 later? Jeez....
Unican_Eric 06-06-2006, 11:38 AM Sometimes we are just not thinking and do stupid things. Along the same lines........I was at school in auto mechanics class (many moons ago) and the teacher just torched off a piece of an exhaust system. It was about 2 feet long and for some stupid reason I bent down to move it......with my hand!! Geez I was stupid, burnt my thumb and all 4 fingers.
So BeerCan you are not alone.
Manitoulin 06-06-2006, 11:50 AM I was seriously burned when I got divorced.... :tears:

Show me a man that hasn't!!
Sandy G 06-06-2006, 01:15 PM When I was a kid, I grabbed an Electric Fence to step across it. Th' damthing wouldn't let me go for a minute or so. DON'T grab an electric fence. Voice of experience talkin' here.
simplynuts 06-06-2006, 01:32 PM When I was dating my wife she always saw me with bandaides. i work around machines and always cut myself. Getting better with age though. I did burn myslef on occassion too. Paper cut to reduce the pain trick, use teething pain for teeth on the cut. It stops hurting pretty fast.
Boonaroo 06-30-2006, 04:00 PM I was in the back yard a few days ago cleaning out a potted plant container. When I was done, decided to pinch a few extra drain holes in the bottom. I used a pick-ax, and instead of hitting the pot, I hit my thumb. :thmbsp: :pity: :tears: Went right thru the meaty part behind the nail!!! Blood was everywhere!!!!
I continue to amaze . . . or is it amuse . . . myself at how stupid I can be at times.

OvenMaster, Ozmoid and I share a painful and sometimes embarrassing past restaurant life. When I was in high school (1974) I was a short order cook in a pancake house. The biggest challenge was a German pancake which had to cook in the oven until the sides rose five inches. I was checking on one when I noticed it was touching the side of the oven, so I quickly reached in and moved the metal pan to the center of the rack. Then I remembered the pot holder.
My hand hurt but didn't blister. Just like bee keepers get immune to bee stings, I got semi-immune to burns. (My wife says if you get ice on it quickly enough, it reduces the temperature of the tissue so that the burn is less severe. It works, but I never understood why.)
Good luck, BeerCan.
P.S. Can I get an 'amen' for those black pumice 'grill bricks' we used to remove grime/varnish? Remember when your hand would slip off and slide across the hot oiled grill? Jeez, my finger tips are getting tight just from the memory.
