Wow, exciting (for me)!

I've listened to and admired Allan Holdsworth's work since the early-mid 1970s--that distinctive GROWLING guitar and quick fingers. I think that I have most of his records/CDs from various points throughout his career (even the pre-Gong years). The concert will be in Northampton, MA and I can't wait...this will, I think be his same trio from his recent live recording in Japan, "All Night Wrong".

Years ago, I heard a Lenny White record from the mid-70s and Allan played on that particular record...I've never been able to locate it since I first heard it in 1977...and, no...I wasn't dreaming it or in a college stupor! :guitar:

The trio was:
Allan Holdsworth, Chad Wackerman and Jimmie Johnson--the same line-up as on the "All Night Wrong" CD. I need to trace some of the pieces back to discs to assemble a play-list for the night, but MAN...DID THEY COOK!!

As a "former" drummer...that Chad Wackerman can play those skins!

The pieces I can recall included: Water on the Brain, The Fifth (A CW piece), Insomniac, a Tony Williams piece I recognized, some pieces from the Secrets CD and 3 or 4 others. I have asked AH's management company for a playlist.

It was a great selection of pieces from the melodic, to contrapuntal, to thundering, to atmospheric.

AH only played his guitar and no Synthaxe and mostly with 2 pedal settings that growling tone and the clear liquid tone (not sure what those pedal settings are called--forgive me!).

They played a nice set with one encore--a short piece (and some pieces were from the 16 Men of Tain CD, now that I think about it).

A great show with not a bad seat in the house (we were up on the balcony, directly overlooking the band with a clear shot to the fret boards!).

Worth the wait of almost 30 years to see Allan Holdsworth live!!

Lucky you! I remember the first time I heard Allan Holdsworth. It was with the band Tempest, featuring ex Colliseum drummer Jon Hiseman. Awesome hard rock with jazz overtones. I also really enjoyed his stint with Soft Machine. He is such a fluid player and lightning fast. I believe the Tempest album came out in 1973. I still have it on vinyl and just recently got a British reissue on CD.
