Mid to late 1982 according to my Compact Disc history class.

It wasn't unusual for early CD's to list a date that was the same as the original release...

'Tis true, and he is probably just dutifully copying the information as he sees it on the product he is selling. Not everyone can be Compact Disc historians like ourselves.

Heh heh, ya had me there, for a minute. ;) I graduated H.S. in '79, and remember the music well , especially The Wall & Zeppelin's In Through The Out Door, & the 1st Van Halen. But then I remembered, we played cassettes back then, lol. :D :smoke:

Cassettes? I was still buying 8 tracks at that time, so I could listen to them in my car. Minimum wage was 2.75 or 3.00 an hour and cassette players for the car were out of my price range..

It was 74 or 75 when I bought a new Pioneer super tuner with cassette and their GM 120 seperate amp. One of the first seperate systems for cars. . . I loved that system. . .Many fond memories. . .Finally sold the car in 82 kept the Pioneer system, built a plywood case for it and the speakers and finished it well with stain and lacquer. My sister still uses it today in her kitchen. Still sounds just like it did when new. . . They put some home type speakers on it and sold the old 6x9s to a collector. . .

Trippy. . .This is my very first and last car audio post. . .please forgive me but something struck a cord. . ."The Wall" maybe. . .required yearly listening. . . :ntwrthy: :ntwrthy:

FWIW, Van Halen's first album was released in 1978, if memory serves. It definitely wasn't 1979. :D

Was it a KP-500 with a big FM dial on the right?
I had one with a GM-120 amp, and a pair of Pioneer 6X9 coaxials in the package tray. I think it was around '76 when I got mine. When I was at the car stereo shop they had Jeff Beck's "Wired" in for a demo cassette, and I still like that album.

perhaps whats really wrong, is that when an chance to buy something
that pre-dates it's invention, is not welcomed

I was going to say Saucer Full of Secrets. Ever see Roger Waters DVD concert with Doyle Brumhall II? Great concert and he does a version of Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun. :music: :music:

Nice one Scott!
Piper at the Gates of Dawn, their very first LP. (I believe)
Bought this new in 1968, or their abouts.
