Seems fitting to honor the father of ambient music (and so much more!) this evening. Whether you like his groove or not there is no denying his influence on contemporary music; it is everywhere from 'world music' to hip hop to mall punk to alternatives like the arctic monkeys. Mr. Eno is the electronic equivalent of the Beatles. Enuf said here are some faves.

Plateaux of Mirrors, w/Harold Budd is the one that did it for me back in 1980. to this day, when i put that LP on, i am struck again by the ineffable alien strangeness and the absolutely shocking way it stood apart from its contemporaries. it hinted at and suggested atmospheres, moods and perceptions that had never even been imagined before. i became a lifelong fan after that.
