This is a heads up for Soul Music lovers:
" Only The Strong Survive", is a documentary now playing in select markets. The film focuses on the Memphis Sound, think Stax/Volt. It features Rufus Thomas ( Walking the Dog), Carla Thomas ( Gee Whiz, B-A-B-Y), Jerry Butler, Isaac Hayes, Sam Moore, Mary Wilson, and others.
" Wattstax", is a documentary scheduled for rerelease in select cities on June 6. It first came out 30 years ago and has been digitally remastered with added footage. It is concert footage of a 1972 concert considered the " black Woodstock." Artists include: Rufus and Carla Thomas, Staple Singers, Bar-Kays, Little Milton, Johnnie Taylor, Albert King, Luther Ingram, and Richard Pryor. The new footage includes Isaac Hayes closing the show performing "The Theme From Shaft" and " Soulsville." Since this is a Sony Project maybe the soundtrack will be available on SACD.
Hopefully, Steve Cropper and Donald " Duck" Dunn will get a nod in the first documentary.
Thanks
Joe
