View Full Version : Swing Out Sister anyone? millerdog 05-29-2003, 05:59 AM Nice groove, good beat and nice vocals:) Man, I could throw pots all day listening to this:D Johnny 05-30-2003, 08:35 PM Never heard of them. Who might you compare them to ? J ckelly 05-30-2003, 09:51 PM yeah -what Johnny Said :D millerdog 05-31-2003, 12:45 AM You guys dont remember that early nineties hit "Breakout?" SOS reminds me of Basia without a Latin influence. Maybe like Everything But The Girl? Music they used to play in Yuppie bars during the late eighties and early nineties;) car67 06-03-2003, 10:21 PM "breakout" - great song and infectious chorus. Always come to mind when I see bar of chocolate. :) Wonder what happened to them? At least the lead singer anyway. Quite easy on the eye. millerdog 06-05-2003, 03:32 AM 67, Seems they've been puttin out some cds...I just got the vinyl;) I like their groove, so I may have to break down and get their newer stuff! car67 06-06-2003, 05:50 AM Hey md, Your post prompted me to pull out the copy of their first LP last night and give it a spin. Called "It's better to travel". Been years since I played it. Some nice tunes and some just blah. Sound quality also a bit "thin" like a lot of other late 80's pop vinyl. Still, it was good to bop around to "breakout" again! :p: cheers Jack Manitoulin 03-19-2005, 08:22 PM Had to revive an old thread. I have all their CDs, except one rare Japanese one. Can't say I like the latest stuff, but If I had one group to pick if I was marooned on a desert island, it would be SOS. Before you pidgen-hole them because of "Breakout" listen to some of their other tunes. Quite a good mix of MOR and Jazz, with some interesting twists. Nice thing is, you can get most of their CDs cheap on eBay, except for the rare Japenese stuff. Mind you, for the latest generation, SOS would not be their cup of tea. No bashing or negative lyrics. Sandy G 03-19-2005, 08:32 PM ...And I just thought they were one of those weird '80s groups that had one hit, maybe 2 & then vanished. Anybody remember "Danny Wilson"? "Eye To Eye?" "Big Country?" "Coyote Sisters"? Those are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head. The one I liked was that nutty "Timbuk 3"...Always wished that German group "Nena" had a longer career, too..as well as Peter Schilling...-Sandy G. Sandy G 03-19-2005, 08:44 PM Oh, yeah !! loved the video-that damn donkey haulin' the TV around !! Seems like they were a husband/wife team.-Sandy G. Trawlerman 03-30-2005, 05:13 AM Used to like them back in the day.... Shit.. Who am I kidding. I still like them. They were sort of a jazz-pop fusion group that very much liked by the yuppies. I used to have a big crush on that girl when I was back in school and she's still pretty decent today, some 15 years on. IRC they released a new album recently. Quite easy on the eye. Corrine Drewery - can't believe I can pull that name off the top of my head. (Really . . . I didn't "Google") :lmao: I liked that group a lot. I believe it was the second song on that album that had a killer bass line. Hyfi 06-14-2005, 08:26 PM I always grroved to "Am I The Same Girl". Not sure why but it's catchy. I picked up the disk with that on it in the supermarket for about $7 a few years back. What's next...a Yanni thread? I've heard a few Smooth Jazz instrumentals in the last few years also. Reel 2 Reel 05-14-2006, 11:15 AM I was spinning some Basia yesterday with the 'musicmatch Jukebox'( My main music server)..and just for shits and grins I 'cliked' on one of the 'related artists' links... Of course ...it was Swing Out Sister... I cant believe I have been overlooking them all these years...I'm hooked!... :music: :thmbsp: I guess thats what I get for having a narrow mind... And a good thing I have the great members of 'AK'... to find and recommend great tunes and artists.... And the Musicmatch jukebox 'Artist on demand'...without it I would have no means of hearing the new tunes...and artists... |
