SOS reminds me of Basia without a Latin influence. Maybe like Everything But The Girl? Music they used to play in Yuppie bars during the late eighties and early nineties;)

Your post prompted me to pull out the copy of their first LP last night and give it a spin. Called "It's better to travel". Been years since I played it.

Some nice tunes and some just blah. Sound quality also a bit "thin" like a lot of other late 80's pop vinyl. Still, it was good to bop around to "breakout" again! :p:

Had to revive an old thread.

I have all their CDs, except one rare Japanese one. Can't say I like the latest stuff, but If I had one group to pick if I was marooned on a desert island, it would be SOS.

Before you pidgen-hole them because of "Breakout" listen to some of their other tunes. Quite a good mix of MOR and Jazz, with some interesting twists. Nice thing is, you can get most of their CDs cheap on eBay, except for the rare Japenese stuff. Mind you, for the latest generation, SOS would not be their cup of tea. No bashing or negative lyrics.

...And I just thought they were one of those weird '80s groups that had one hit, maybe 2 & then vanished.

Timbuk 3 great. I picked up there lp Greetings From Timbuk 3 at GW a while back. Remember "The futures so bright I gotta wear shades"?

I liked that group a lot. I believe it was the second song on that album that had a killer bass line.

I always grroved to "Am I The Same Girl". Not sure why but it's catchy. I picked up the disk with that on it in the supermarket for about $7 a few years back.

I've heard a few Smooth Jazz instrumentals in the last few years also.

I was spinning some Basia yesterday with the 'musicmatch Jukebox'( My main music server)..and just for shits and grins I 'cliked' on one of the 'related artists' links... Of course ...it was Swing Out Sister...

I cant believe I have been overlooking them all these years...I'm hooked!... :music: :thmbsp:
