View Full Version : Name that tune...too
Drybasement 07-22-2002, 10:20 PM Okay, here ya go.
Mama told me when I was young,
"Come sit beside me, my only son
And listen closely to what I say,
And if you do this,
It will help you some sunny day........
ckelly 07-22-2002, 10:22 PM Pink Floyd?
Mama
Chris
loonytunes 07-22-2002, 10:24 PM Lynyrd Skynyrd Simple man :D
That last one you said was Metallica But I'll be danged if I can remember the name of the song. Was it on Kill 'em all ?
Derek
Drybasement 07-22-2002, 11:40 PM Derek got it. Lynyrd Skynryd.
The other song was Metallica - Fade to Black from Ride The Lightning.
Shall we continue?
This should be easy.
On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas rising up through the air
That's all you get for this one. Easy as pie.
Wardsweb 07-22-2002, 11:59 PM Come on - way to mainstream - I have this album
Eagles
Hotel California
Wardsweb 07-23-2002, 12:03 AM Here is one for our illustrious leader - Ok Kamakiri one from an album in my collection
They're mixing with the population
A virus wearing pumps and pearls
You dont' get this and I'll come up there and slap ya

The only reason I know this is because I just got the CD. Very obscure lyrics. Most people won't have a clue.
Make the game fun for all participants Wards.
Wardsweb 07-23-2002, 12:29 AM Tim and I are big fans, I have very album he ever did plus the group efforts

It's "A virus wearing diamonds and pearls" :D
"Lord help the lonely guys
Hooked by those hungry eyes
Here come tomorrow's girls....
Tomorrow's girls"
Ah yes, Donald Fagen :)
Angela, you should get this ...
"This house is your own,
still living alone,
it don't make you sad,
But I think its good to be green"
Too easy for you!
But here's one you'll never get ...
"A smash of glass and the rumble of boots,
Electric train and a ripped up phone booth,
Paint splattered walls and the cry of a tomcat,
Lights going out and a kick in the balls"
Mmmm?
Drybasement 07-23-2002, 08:10 PM Walt, more hints. Or is it impossible?
In the mean time, try this one.
How can we understand
Riots by the people for the people
Who are only destroying themselves
And when you see a frightened
Person who is frightened by the
People who are scorching the earth
This should be a good one. Not too mainstream anyway.
The first one ... well I will wait until Angela checks by because she should get that ...
But the second, well it wasn't really fair ... 1980 British post-punk/New Wave, song writer who is still around today doing mainly acoustic stuff now. I have declared my interest in this music before but you guys probably don't remember ...
How's about this one??
Something grabs a hold of me tightly
Then I flow like a harpoon daily and nightly
Will it ever stop? Yo -- I don't know
Turn off the lights and I'll glow
To the extreme I rock a mic like a vandal
Light up a stage and wax a chump like a candle.
grumpy 07-23-2002, 08:26 PM Thor
Sounds an awefull lot like that god awefull Vanilla Ice

Yes sorry guys it was way too hard ...
"Thats Entertainment" - the Jam, released on the album "Sound Affects" in 1980. And the song writer is Paul Weller.
For the other one, I'll wait and see if Anegla can get it (West Coast) ...
Drybasement 07-23-2002, 08:52 PM Derek wins a case of his finest drink. Kam should be in touch with ya soon. :D
Have a great vacatiion Derek.
Here's another excellent lyrical passage to ponder over.
While the poor people sleepin'
With the shade on the light
While the poor people sleepin'
All the stars come out at night

Listening to it as we speak.
How about this.
You check out Guitar George he knows all the chords
Mind he's strictly rhythym he doesn't want to make it cry or sing
And an old guitar is all he can afford
When he gets up under the lights to play his thing

Country Boy Can Survive
Hank Williams Jr and then Kid Rock
I grew up in a house that had both kinds of music country and western. My father was a country musician; main instrument was the steel guitar but he also played the fiddle, piano, guitar, do-bro, mandalin and some drums. My Father, Willie Nelson and a fiddle player named Johnny Gimble all grew up together and use to have jam sessions at our house on Sundays. Wow, memories

OK Angela ...
those lyrics were, of course from "Green" by Alex Lloyd in the album "Watching Angels Mend".
"Green" was one of the tracks I recently sent to Angela to sample ...

Well, you know your music. Are you sure you're not using some sort of google search?
Funny, we hear songs a zillion times but do we really pay attention to the lyrics.
steamshooter 07-24-2002, 07:29 AM Wow! Hank Jr. fans in here. I'm impressed. Have you heard him do Tuesday's Gone? If your big knob is less than 1:00 then your not hearing it right :D He's underated in my opinion. "Get yourself a Harley! Hop on a hog!" Here's one:
"Come down with fire,
lift my spirit higher.
Someone's screaming my name,
come and make me holy again!"

Rainbow - Man on the Silver Mountain.
Ronnie James Dio sure has a powerful voice. One of the best heavy metal voices around. The lead singer from Iron Maiden has a great heavy metal voice also.

Wards,
I wasn't calling you out on this. A half handed attempt at sarcasm I guess. I am marveled at your ability to match lyrics with song titles. Like I said before, some people hear a song a thousand times and don't remember the lyrics. Even when the words are in front of them, the song title escapes them. Hopefully, no hard feelings.
Btw, how is your progress with manuals I sent you?
Wardsweb 07-24-2002, 03:44 PM Hey no problem, we're cool.
Manuals are slow due to some extraordianry things in my life over the past few weeks, but I will have this weekend with no wife kids, so I'll work on them.
Ok, let's get back to having some fun-
one of my favorite songs of all time:
Oh, let the sun beat down upon my face
With stars to fill my dream.
I am a traveler of both time and space
To be where I have been.
To sit with elders of a gentle race,
This world has seldom seen,
With talk of days for which they sit and wait
When all will be revea__led.
grumpy 07-24-2002, 04:23 PM Zep :)
Drybasement 07-24-2002, 04:54 PM Yep, Zep - Kashmir
ckelly 07-24-2002, 05:24 PM OK GUYS....
Lets see if you can figure this one out:
All night long on the broken glass
livin in a medicine chest
mediteromanian hotel back
sprawled across a roll top desk
the monkey rode the blade on an
overhead fan
they paint the donkey blue if you pay
I got a telephone call from Istanbul
my baby's coming home today

Johnny's in the basement
Mixing up the medicine
I'M on the pavement
Thinking about the
government
The man in the trench coat
Badge out, Laid off
Says he's got a bad cough
Wants to get paid off
Look out Kid
It's something you did
God knows when
But You're doing it again
You better duck down the
Alley Way
Lookin for a new friend
The man in a coon-skin cap
In the big pin
Wants eleven dollar bills
You only got ten

Look out Kid
Dont matter what you did
Walk on tip toes
Don't try "No Doz"

Keep a clean nose
Watch the plain clothes

Sweet Jamaican pipe dreams
Golden Acapulco nights
Then Morocco, and the East
