Picked up two more Imax documentories, ' March of the Penguins' and 'Nascar'. I also have 'Sacred Planet'. Let me tell you, with my upscaler these films have the best picture quality I've seen. I have to wonder when/if HD players/movies hit the market if they will top these.
If you have an upscaler, you may want to try an Imax film. This should give you a pretty good idea on whether or not to take the plunge on the HD format.

Yeah, they are nice discs, especially when upscaled. I have a few IMAX discs, including "March of the Penguins", which I didn't think was that great PQ-wise. Just for giggles, you may want to check out some of the Superbit DVDs, especially "The Fifth Element", which is used by many people as their video standard/ show off disc.
That said, HD DVDs are significantly better.
enjoy,

That said, HD DVDs are significantly better. They actually have several Imax WMV HD DVDs. They require a computer for playing, but they look fantastic in this format. No argument that playing them via a computer is not the ideal way of watching a movie, but I have Coral Reef Adventures in WMV HD and it looks great. You can download some of the trailers from Microsoft (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/musicandvideo/hdvideo/contentshowcase.aspx).

Yea, I'm aware of WMV. I'm not hooking up my computer to my TV though. Its a pity it was never added to DVD players.

Yea, I'm aware of WMV. I'm not hooking up my computer to my TV though. Its a pity it was never added to DVD players. I know. I bought a DVD player that was supposed to add WMV HD as a future capability, but they were informed by Microsoft that it needed the OS to resolve the DRM issues. Supposedly, the DVD player that I bought will play Marc Cuban WMV HD movies, but I have never tested it. I have a computer hooked to my TV, so I have no problem watching the DRM movies.
Terminator 2 is also on WMV HD, but it has the most cumbersome DRM this side of Sony. Therefore, I always think twice before watching it. It can take 5 minutes just getting the DRM resolved. Luckily, the Imax movies are a lot easier to use.
