Dear Sisters and Brothers,

This is a love song. It includes a video clip of the movie. The man in the movie is MGR. The woman is his wife who is quite annoyed with him for some reason! I have given below the English translation to help you understand as you watch and listen :-)

I grew up with songs like this! While you are at the link below I will be pleased if you would also take the time to watch some of the other clips too:-)

Thank you :-)

Go to this page :

There will be six pictures of MGR arranged 3 on top of 3. Look for the black and white MGR in dark sun-glasses. Click on it and I hope you have RealPlayer.

Kaatru Vaanga (Early 60s 1 Channel Mono)
Singer: Soundararajan T M
Music Director: Viswanathan M S

(Chorus)
For a walk-about I did go and brought me back a Poem; (2X)
And she took that Poem from me; I wonder what happened to her now?

(Chorus)

My heart is the swing upon which stage she dances!
My sights dive deep with the Boat of her Youth!
She took that Poem from me; I wonder what happened to her now?

(Chorus)

When I strut my 'walks' the Wind gave me answers! (2x)
That Beauty is suitably appropriate to take my mind away.
And she took that Poem from me; I wonder what happened to her now?

(Chorus)

The moon slumbers wonderfullly in the Sky but her mind is restless, why? (2X)
Tho' the separation covers small distance; my Heart cannot have it,
And she took that Poem from me; I wonder what happened to her now?

(Chorus)

My sights dive deep with the Boat of her Youth!

Indeed!

That MGR guy is kinda like a cross between Freddie Fender and the character Peter Sellers portrayed in The Party. :smoke:

Thanks for the linky...think I'll go back for s'more. :thmbsp:

Thanks for the link. I really enjoyed it after hearing it a bit and getting used to the different style. I really enjoy this site because thanks to folks like you and others I am exposed to music I would never hear otherwise.
Here is a link CarlV gave me and I bought the CD. You might like it also. It's renaissance music with some old and some modern instruments. Listen to "Way to Mandalay" and see if it appeals to you.

Hi Buddha,

Yes MGR influenced my early years. He sings mostly what the Tamils call 'philosophical songs' to educate the erring Indians. He passed away many years ago but I still listen to his songs when I feel troubled.

Hi Mike Gibson,

I listened to Way to Mandalay and I must say it is poignant and beautiful. Almost like Kitaro is in the band. Is that Jon Lord doing the synth? Its sweet :-)

That is Ritchie Blackmore soloing at the end :-)

Thank you :-)

No disrespect intended, but as I re-read my reply I could see room for misinterpretation. :scratch2:

I could have said something about expecting a clip from The Captain & Tamil, but there are lines even I won't cross...
