Cubdog, it's been really, really dry here for a while in boston. Well, besides all the heavy rain and flooding we recently had courtesy of mother nature. But gear has been scarce.

Seems to pop up when the students are leaving for the summer to go back home (Boston is a huge college town) or when it's actually nice enough to do spring cleaning- like right now. Trust me, it's been miserable here, weather-wise, untill recent.

So with the students going home, and people doing spring cleaning, all of a sudden there's been a deluge of gear here.

If I wasn't a broken cripple in a wheelchair, my basement would be full of stuff.

I'm thinking possibly going into a small project with Birddog, if I'm physically well enough to do so. He's a great fella, somewhat close to me, and between the two, we may be able to tag-team this stuff. Since I'm not well enough to work, due to my broken back, I could restore these (re-cap, refoam, refinish, re-veneer) and offer them up here on AK for a very fair price.

This gives me something to do, and will put a few moderate dollars into my pocket, as well as his, in order to cover gas, supplies, ect.

It will also keep us out of trouble.

So if you catch something here in boston you like, I'll be sure to help you out if I can, wether just shipping it to you, or elsewise.

So let me know if something catches your eye!

Deli! Not a word to say about the Fried's??? Those are awesome boxes, when was the last time you saw a pair of those come up? R U familiar with Fried's? Think of the initials... IMF!!! Yes, Those IMF's!!! If I didn't blow my wad on the JBL's today I would have been off like a shot to get those. Funny thing is I bet he doesn't get a lot of calls on them, people think it's a joke when you say you have a pair of "Fried" speakers...LOL

Birdog, Deli, and Cubdog (and probably Bolly when he finds this thread),

Somebody go get these speakers!!! Here's a link to the Model R brochure from the IMF loudspeakers website link to Fried Loudspeakers:

http://imf-electronics.com/documents/Fried/Fried%20Model%20R%20Loudspeaker.pdf

These are very nice speakers and use the Transmission line/Resistive Line tunnel approach that Fried used in his upper end speakers. The driver lineup is all KEF (B139 later oval bass, B110 mid, and T27 tweeter). The drivers alone are worth about 3x the asking price. Put together in the Model R box and they are a very nice compact TL design that rivals the British IMF designs. I have a pair of them broken down when I bought them from a dear friend before he passed away. Eventually, I'll get them back up and running.

If none of you guys want them, consider getting them for me for the drivers. Let me know. I suspect though that when you get them, you just might want to keep them or pass them around to AK'ers in the area.

Hey, that might be the best, buy them and then charge $20 for an extended 30 day period of listening. After 5 AK members check them out, they're free!

Regards,

Bart

I know! I'm bummed, no funds to spring for these! Beautiful boxes, KEF drivers with poly cones, amazing cabinet design, Irving was one of the greats at speaker design, Look at how coveted the IMF's are still! I'd be happy to help rescue these if some one could arange payment with the seller, love to see an AK'er get them... I would gladly make a trip to snag them for a member...

Gotta love craigs at the end of the month!!!! Ya gotta deal with some whacko's, but 99% of the people I've dealt with have been great!

birddog
05-29-2006, 07:15 PM
Here is an example of the stuff in Boston craigs, stuff like this all day, every day, ya never know...

"I've got an older Dual (the brand, not 2 platters) turntable I'm looking to get out of the house. It doesn't work, and does need some replacement parts and a new cartridge. That said, it's a fantastic old table that sounds great when it's up and running. I'll include the estimate from Audiolab in Cambridge for the repairs (around 2hundred). Let me know if you want it, and I'll let you know which porch it's on. "

I know this one needs work, but to an AK'er it may be an easy fix! I would need a wharehouse if I brought home 10 % of the stuff I find there...Course I would be divorced, but ain't that a small price to pay??? LOL

Calling all vintage audio buffs!!!! Pioneer Hpm-100 speakers. These are some of the greatest rock speakers ever made! Cast woofer baskets, carbon fiber used in the cone material, and super tweeters for the highest of the highs. Unbelievable bass response and pronounced midrange. No, I was whining, crying and belly-aching like a little baby about $100 Frieds. I'm almost over it...

I know the fella with the HPMs- he was at my house today. He's a real nice fella and a fellow AK member.

He's such a nice guy, in fact, that he picked up the four Powered Advents a fellow AKer won off eBay, and dropped them off to me on his day off, a 2 hour round trip, the kind guy he is. I'll be boxing and shipping the Powered Advents for the fella who won them.

Hey- I know that!!! Read the above!!!

No, I was bellyaching about the Frieds...

No HPMs for me. Good speakers I bet, but I've been picky about my gear since I've been dealing with bad listeners fatigue, ringing in my ears, ect (result of a car accident and side effects of medicines).

I hope I get to hear those HPMs before he sells them, but I'm saving my pennies for my ADS and BA collection. They don't seem to give me "Ear Indigestion", except for one pair of the BA-70s, that is...

Scott,

I could be wrong, and I hope that I am, but I think the fella may have tried to contact me about these as well. I sent an email to him in case any buyers who contacted him before me, were not interested, to contact me if so.

So keep persistant!

Rest assured I didn't make any deals with him or anything- that's not my modus operandi. I could be completely wrong here, but if it was him that called, he may be checking the field to see who will pay what.

And like I said- don't worry- I'm standing far back and won't be offering him anything if it is indeed him, these are all yours, my friend.

I recently had my chance at another set of Advents, a few weeks back, out of Somerville, and had a deal going with the guy, for $80. Well, he called back and said the deal was off, as he got lots of calls and people were offering him up to $175. If I wanted to go higher than that, he'd still sell them to me. I said no way. So I guess the folks who made the higher offers finally got around to seeing them, and decided against getting them, so he has been bugging me relentlessly to take 'em for around $150. This, after breaking out $80 initial deal. What a delusional, untrustworthy idiot! Shame on him, and shame on the person who swindled 'em out of me, too.

A fair price for these, considering condition, was $80. We would have both been happy. :thumbsdn:
