I picked these up last week and tried them with the EICO HF-81 and McIntosh MA6200...nice with both but a bit better with the EICO...I bought these to mate with my Academy (super sized by popbumper, Chris Munson's K-Stack) but they didn't really do much for me down there and there ample bass capabilities seemed a waste with a sub in the HT....back upstairs to the EICO...NICE... :music: :thmbsp: :D

I had a pair of the Quartets at the same time I had a pair of vintage Heresies and FAR preferred the Quartets, hands down. More musical and better balanced. They are very overlooked and very underrated, in my opinion.

Congrats on the Quartet's Bill. Texas42 You liked the Quartet's better than the Heresie's? I have got a pair of Heresie's mated to an AlmarroA318A and, while it sounds clean and accurate the punch is just not there. I have been thinking of going with a Cornwall, Forte or a Chorus. Maybe I am just used to and prefer the punch that my VRD's provide to the LaScalas :thmbsp:

Patrick...I think you would also be very surprized by the Quartets...nice addition of bass without being overpowering...

Boy, I have a small room but dang it, but I would have to agree with Bill on this one. I was running a similar amp (el84) and was quite surprised by the preformance level of the Quartets I owned. I bought them for backup duty while my EV's were being re-coned and wasn't expecting much. I thought the sounded very good and had more than enough bass thump for my tastes. I have a feeling that you are correct though Patrick. The LaScalas on Craig's amp's must sound pretty sweet. :thmbsp:

When I set up a demo for the eventual buyer, I hooked them up to a Denon receiver for two reasons. The first being convience and the second being that the buyer was going to be driving with SS gear. Didn't sound quite the same to say the least.

Anyone know why Klipsch decided to put the magnets to hold the speaker grill on their "lowly" Quartets but not on the Forte' and Chorus??? The build quality on mine seems first rate and they sound great...I believe mine are from the first year, 1989...

Actually...the Chorus had magnets holding the grill on as well. So did the Forte'. I had a pair of Chorus with them once (not sure if it was the I or II, as I had both over a period of time) and have seen the Forte' with them as well. Actually, I prefer the magnets holding the grill on over the velcro or plastic pins. Easier to line up and they don't break like the cheapo plastic pins.

...me too...I did not know any of the others had them as well...thanks Texas42! How would you describe the differences in sound from Quartet to Forte' to Chorus??? Curious as I am REALLY enjoying these Quartets, I wonder what I am missing in not ever hearing the Forte' or Chorus (okay, I heard the Forte' about 20 years ago...;) )

Well, in addition to their similar cosmetics...I guess the best way to describe the Forte' and Chorus in relation to the Quartet is simply a 'bigger' bit more dynamic sound field. In addition the Forte' and the Chorus go a bit deeper (as they should given their drivers and cabinet size. In a small room the Quartet actually might be the better speaker of the 3 as you would have less placement problems and wouldn't overload the room.

However, I've always felt the Forte' is one of the best full range speakers for the money, period. With the right amplification you could have a very very nice sounding system for far less than most offering out there.

This series (Quartet, Forte' and Chorus) is often overlooked as it is 'post heritage' (Khorn, Cornwall, LaScala, Belle, and Heresy) which most seem to prefer (my main speakers are the LaScalas) but I think they do some things better than the heritage series and usually can be found at a far more reasonable price. Some would disagree with me but I've owned most of the above Klipsch speakers at one time or another so this just represents my experience. Of course, one's room and associated equipment have a lot to do with the sound you will get.

I'm glad you are enjoying your Quartets. They are a fine speaker. Happy listening!

well, I'm a Heritage guy too...didn't care for the Forte' in 1989 but tastes change perhaps...I have Heresys and K'Horns but I must say the Quartets sound wonderful...thanks for the thumbnail sketch of the others in the family...I have heard some say the Chorus sound terrible but I find that hard to believe and I have never met anyone who doesn't like the Forte'...I fell into these Quarts and fell in love...very nice mesh with the EICO HF-81 and it allowed my second set of Heresys to do rear surround duty on the 5.1 Home Theater with Heresy Mains and an Academy Center...Thanks again for sharing your thoughts...listenin' to The Cars through the EICO and Quartets...

Well, now you guys are getting me excited. If I can ever get my poop in a group, I'll be hooking up with Audio Flynn (Klipsch forum member, who pops in here on occasion as well) to purchase his Chorus II's. I may have to pay a bit more than market for them, but they have had the Dean G cross over upgrade, and I don't have to worry about shipping, as he lives in the same town as me. He's making room for a pair of La Scala's that he's found, so I'll pick up the Chorus II's. I may make a condition of sale that I get invited back to his place to check out the La Scalas when they are in place.

The downside is that something will have to go. The two candidates are the RF-7's or the RF-3's, neither of which I'm excited to part with.
