I notice that we occassionally have various [insert brand] roll calls and I thought it might be a good idea to have a speaker master list for any members who want to participate. I'll even recommend that if you owned it, but no longer own it, maybe list current and past speakers. I find it helpful when trying to determine if gear is worthwhile, to be able to easily track down who has owned what and send those individuals PMs.

What do you guys think? I'll start and see where this goes:

Past:
Wharfedale Valdus 400
Wharfedale Valdus 500
NHT 2.1s
Various DIY makes with components from audax, seas, scanspeak, dayton, eton, bravox, vifa, peerless, triangle, silver flute, and JBL.
Audax A150X (didn't own but tested and possessed for too long)
JBL Home Theater in Box speakers, Movies 20? something to that effect. Crap either way.
Adire Audio AV3 based mini-monitors
Adire Audio Extremis based monitors with Morel MDT-28 tweeters

Current:

Pioneer CS-05
Realistic Nova 7-B
Realistic Minimus 7s
NHT SuperZeros
Ohm Walsh Fs
KLH 15
Altec 886a
Bozak B-301 Tempo
Bozak B-302 Urban
Adire Audio Shiva
Lambda Acoustics PB15
Bose 601 Series II
New Advent Loudspeakers

Not the biggest list, but the DIY portion is pretty extensive.

We've had a similar thread (http://audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=256) for a while, but my list there is greatly out of date.

I'm just going to list what I have now in my apartment. Past owned speakers, those stored elsewhere, and those on loan would make my list 5x or more longer and I'm not sure if I can remember all of them.

Bozak 302A
Dahlquist DQ-10
Design Acoustics D-6
Design Acoustics PS-10
Dynaco A-25
EPI 120C
Infinity Quantum 2
Infinity RSb
Magnepan MG-I
Sound Lab A-2
Tannoy Berkeley

DIY 10" ported sub
DIY Adire DPL-12 with PR-15 passive radiator

A few loose drivers including a Knight KN-830 and a single very old horn. I also have a Western Electric 100E Powered Loudspeaker, though it kind of qualifies as a separate component.

By the end of this week, the EPIs will be gone and my Design Acoustics D-12s will come home along with my next project and likely future mains. (Hint: Hybrid ribbons :thmbsp: )

As per usual, I forgot some. I've also the guts to a pair of Altec A-7 VotTs taking up space in my bedroom. That would be a pair of 416A woofers in flimsy cabinets and a pair of 511B horns with 808-4Z compression drivers. If we're still talking about stuff taking up space, then I'll have to add a couple of spare cabinets, one left over from my Quantum 2 mirror-imaging project and one Tannoy Berkeley cab to eventually test ways to damp the panel resonances.

Why so many? Where do you put them? Some you must have an audio store. I have only needed 4 Kenwood KW-7070's and 2 Realistic Minimus 7's on the back patio. I brought the 7070's at the audio club in Bitburg, Germany in 1974 and the 7' in 1984 at the Shack. All of them doing great. The 7's are being updated with the new crossover.

Actually, speaking for myself, you're not far off. I had an after-school job working at the last real hi-fi shop in the area. Sold mostly Wharfedale and Denon, but carried Audio Source, Polk, Technics, and h/k too.

All of the newer Wharfedale stuff is from my time there. The older E-series stuff is just from my private collection.

As for storing it, I don't have a problem personally. I live alone in a 2,500sq ft 4-bedroom house with a full basement (though, not for much longer). Once I move, I may have a problem.

Thanks, I have been looking for a site that had a lot of audio info. I also found the Quad site. It also has info I need. I have been a fan of CD-4 for more than 30 years. I just had my TT fixed at Adopt-A-Dual. Its is a Dual 1229Q with a Empire 4000Dii cartridge. I brought a spare stylus at the audio club in Frankfurt before the plane. Chuck put it under the scope and said real dirty. He cleaned it up and the diamond was great. If y'all a Dual repaired check him out and search Dual Reference site for lots of info there.

Holy crap! :yikes: Some of you must live in warehouses! Where do you fit all that stuff?

I'm down to just my five main speakers (Monitor Audio 8i's/12i/FXi's), 2 x HSU TN-1220 subs, a pair of Monitor Audio Bronze 3's in my bedroom, a pair of Monitor Audio Bronze B2's (with new x-overs by Rick Craig of Selah Audio- wonderful work, by the way!) at my computer rig, and a pair of JBL HLS-610's currently sitting in my closet. I've owned many others over the years, but having just moved a few weeks ago a lot of the stuff in my attic & closets had to go. :tears:

SpeakerLab towers (no name, sketched and schematic by David Grabner of Spkrlab) 10" woofer, 4" mid, 10mm dome tweeter. These are with my livingroom system.

Bedroom and shop, Optimus Pro-X55AV (these are the larger models with the 5 1/4" woofers)

In the past several of my own designs.

In the works now, Pi Speakers (www.pispeakers.com) 4pi Theatre to replace the old Speakerlabs. This design utilizes the Eminence Delta-15 woofer and PSD-2002 horn driver on the H290 horn lens.

Also building for my older son, 7pi-18's. These utilize Eminence Kilomax-18 woofer in a cornerhorn config, with Delta-10's in a wood horn box for the mid, and PSD-2002/H290 for the tweeter horn.

The rectilinears are my mains right now--not because they are the best at any one thing but because they are the best, all-around listener. The AR11's have incredible, tight, deep bass and crystal clear highs, but are fatiguing and don't image well. The AR5's are more balanced and less fatiguing, but are a bit veiled and also don't image very well (I'm in the process of a rehab on these, though, so they may turn out better). The soundfields have unparalleled imaging, but have flabby bass and dry, fatiguing highs. The rectilinears have *almost* the imaging of the soundfields, they have bass *almost* as deep as the ARs, although not as tight, they have nice smooth highs with good detail and zero fatigue, and they are very well balanced with smooth transitions between all the drivers.

Woodman, how do you like those Meadowlark Kestrals?? It's a two way do you find they lack a low end?? I have a pair and don't know of many other owners as they went out of business but supposedly these were one of the best sets in the $1000-2000 class and comparing favorably with the top end of that range.

Last 9 months saw Forte II, JBL L65s, Marantz HD 880s, JBL 200Bs, AR 3as, Altec Flamencos 16 ohms and recently Quad ESL 57s occupy living space in my house. Finding myself in front of the Quads most of the time without being analytical or overly circumspect I just gravitate to those wide panels naturally. So does my hyper active dog as those are the only speakers to date which he has fallen asleep in front of while I listen to the soft rock and slow jazz I prefer.:thmbsp:

Yes, Brooks. The 4311's have outlasted all my other stereo gear. They've lasted through the Vinyl/Cassette days and on through the CD era. Had them over 32 years and they've really been workhorses! I love them 4311's to pieces.

The winner's circle, for me, have been the AR-2ax, the Genesis 110, and the Utah HS1-C. My amplification for all speaker testing has been at least 70wpc of clean solid state power, but 150wpc lately.

I'd really like to get the AR-3a up and running soon. My best experiences thus far have generally been East Coast acoustic suspension speakers, but I'd be willing to try out something different like the better JBL offerings. I'm also curious about some big Altecs (or something comparable). Then again, I've heard the Vandersteen 2 series described as the ultimate expression of the AR design trend, piquing my interest. That brings to mind the AR-9 and its close relations...

So many speakers, so little money...

Anyone in this group know about Sherwood speakers?
Found a pair locally that are only identified on the back with
"SHERWOOD LOW DISTORTION 3 WAY SPEAKER SYSTEM" 16ohm
They are a little bigger than large Advents. The cabinet is at least 1 inch thick. There is a 12" woofer, approx 6" mid, and 2" tweeter with a hard cap screwed into the front. Heavy. The logo and grill cloth SCREAM 60's.
Any clue?

Oh yeah, the speaker list.

Bose 301's (1978) -- These were good speakers and ideally paired with a Sansui AU-317 (50 WPC). I added a home-made Speakerlab 12" subwoofer with crossover in 1980 (non-powered, of course) which made for a surprisingly robust system. Lots of good memories. We'd pick our favorite track, turn the volume up, get out a tape measure, light a match, and see at what distance from the woofer we could extinguish the match.

Polk RM3000's (1987) -- 301's relegated to basement duty & blown-up.

Definitive Tech BP2006TL's (1999) -- Polks relegated to rec room duty.

Dynaco A-10. (Oddly, the more I listen, the less I like. I don't know what it is. Perhaps the grass is always greener. The cabs are functional yet trashed, but the drivers tend to bring pretty decent money on that auction site, so...)
Celestion 11. (Cabs are of mediocre build quality - vinyl wrap, and they don't feel very hefty. But they don't resonate at volume, and sound quite good. Excellent speaker by my measure, but they seem hard to find.)
Infinity RSa. (I grew up with these speakers, and remember how good they were. Very hefty construction of course. These probably need a recap. I haven't had the chance to listen to them in a long while, however.)

Ok, here's mine. The collection has been growing. Anybody in and around Mass is more than welcome to swing by and take a listen, if it would help.

Current:

Ohm C2 (2 pair!)
Ohm E
Ohm Walsh 4 (2 pair!)
Ohm Walsh 2
Ohm F (way cool!)
Quad ESL 63 (way cool!)
Klipschorn (way cool *and* loud!)
Magnepan SMGa (way cool!)

Bose 301

Infinity RS 1000 (computer speakers!)
Infinity RS 2000 (computer speakers!)
Infinity 1001A (probably for sale soon)
Infinity Reference Four (definitely for sale soon)

And worth mentioning, because they're kind of cool, a pair of Pioneer TSX-9 car speakers.

Oh, and of course, one Cerwin Vega 24" Sensurround driver, waiting for a cabinet..

Past:

A lot that aren't worth mentioning, most memorable ones were Ohm I's.

I never thought I'd say this, but I think I have too many speakers!

Don't want to threadjack, but here's a teaser:
http://tubino.smugmug.com/photos/211100004-M.jpg

I haven't had them long, and didn't have them a week before I pulled the drivers out to put in the Jensen Imperial cabs -- and they haven't been back yet. Just today I scanned some cool original lit, including reviews and brochures. I'll make them available soon. The stock GRF-R's are really wonderful speakers, but I can't help but think they want to be Imperials when they grow up. Compare GRF to 1952 Imperial plans:

But I'll start a thread on this topic soon.

I am the proud owner of a pair of Realistic Mach Ones. I've enjoyed them since I was born, and have never needed anything else. I currently have them as the front speakers with a pair of Realistic Mach 5000's as the rear. I can personally attest to having to re-arrange or replace trinkets that have fallen off the shelves during the years.

I have:

JBL L150a's

Harmon Kardon 20's

KLH-510's

A KLH 9830 and a KLH 900B (only one of each, I bought them as a set at a garage sale. They look the same and sound the same but are rated for different wattages. :headscrat)

Thats all for now. My parents wont let me get anymore and I have no money being a collage student. In the future though i will probably have a lot more.

Still haven't found anything to replace my Tannoy System 800's. If I can find something else that I can get for the $10 I paid for these I will give them a try. I like the fact that they are not large. Great space savers.

I've never understood, and please explain, how does a flat graph equate something that should and will sound good...

I'm just trying to understand speakers without color...

I also don't understand those graphs.. Guess I need Zilch to explain...

I am also into the audio recording side of things and when you are mixing a recording you want to have speakers that don't color the sound so that you know exactly what you have. That way you don't up the bass because you think it is lacking when really it is your speakers making it sound like it is. (this is just a simple example)

In a nutshell, the graph represents accuracy of reproduction. "Trueness to the original sound". (That's the definition of fidelity.) If that's what you are after. If not, thenI wouldn't worry too much about it.

From all accounts I have read..they sound pretty good....but the proof will be my ears when they arrive. they are not the most efficient things, so i think my tube gear is out of the question, but maybe not as I dont listen too loud...i think they are in the upper 80s.

I'm down to four pairs now;
Mission Argonauts,
IMF TLS50 II,
Minimus 7,
Minimus 77.

Nowhere near as many as a lot of people here but I don't live in a large house or even a small house or an apartment, I rent a room and four pairs of speakers is probably still too many, I've got enough hi-fi gear to put about four systems together but how many systems do I need in one room?
I realized I had a problem when I made plans to extend my bed-legs so I could fit more speakers underneath.:scratch2:

Right now:

B&W 802 series 3
Athena S3
PSB 400

I also used to own a pair of the original Carver Amazing's. I bought them from the original owner in 1992 and he had updated them from the 2 30" ribbons to the single 60" ribbon. I believe he had close to $3200 invested in them and I bought them for only $800 (including the old ribbons and crossovers) in nearly perfect condition. I sold them in 2002 before I moved and I wish I would have kept them.

Dynaco A-25s - $20 Goodwill
Large Advents - $30, needed surrounds, recapped with a few other mods - probably my favorite of the bunch
Klipsch KG4s - truly mint- free from a pal
BA 150s - free from my brother, need surrounds
Minimus 7s - outside speakers that came with the house
Rogers Sound Labs 2-ways with a 12" and a piezo - big things that were free from another pal.
Yamaha MSP5 active studio monitors
Parts Express BR-1s in the garage
Electrovoice Encore 33s - free
MB Quart Domain 20s
M&K subwoofer
Polk small something or other
Kenwood LKS 400B, 3-ways that need surrounds. Can I get some permission to put these on the curb as I can't bring myself to expend any effort on them.
