I remeber seeing this huge cassette deck at a flea
market - years ago.

it consisted of 2 seperate boxes

1 very big rack mount box held the cassette drive

1 very big rack mount box held the electronics

I think it was a marantz deck - 1970's gear - I am not sure.

any one ever see one - own one - have pictures - nudes ?

I almost bought it but I had a 10" rtr with dolby so I passed on it.

I remember thinking at the time - why go that far with the cassette medium.

I think the one I saw made the rounds at a few hawk shops - I saw it several times - last place I saw it at was at a flea market.

in portland oregon.

I used to repair consumer electronics for a few hawk shopps in portland.

Not the Technics RS-9900, either, then?
See http://www.thevintageknob.org/THEVAULT/RS9900/RS9900.html

I think there might've been a two-chassis cassette from either TEAC/TASCAM or AKAI, too???

There are photos of the guts at the vintageknob, the vintage technics site, AND the site I nicked the photo above from :-)

It's one of those unbelievable, more-is-more, "statement" decks.

EDIT: Here's the innards of part of it from Vintage Technics (courtesy of Google):
