I have an akai 280d ss and a teac 6010, both yard sale aquisitions (total investement so far ~20$ for the two). Both need work, any recommendations as to which would be the better deck when restored? Also for the akai buffs out there, what is the difference between an akai 280D SS vs. an akai gx 280D SS? Thanks. Norm

I'm not sure but I think the GX would denote the glass heads, a very good thing.
BTW, there's nothing like having more than one R2R.

What's wrong with them? Teac is better when it comes to getting parts than Akai. I can repair either deck for you if you decide to ship them.

hello all; I think both models you name will last, however i personally never thought a lot of the early on Akai three head arrangement, with the third head moving back and forth to achieve auto reverse playback.(used in GX210, 215, 220, 225, gx280 and 365d Akais) .i have always preferred fixed position heads..like the Teacs. While the gx280d may have slightly wider response, i would go for the Teac 6010. buil like a tank i say and long lasting...the smaller brother of the vaunted 7010. blooeyz and STILL no teac forum..
