This Sunday, 18th of June, AudioKarma.org is four years old! Here's a trip down memory lane...
The first site on the internet that actually had a dedicated forum for vintage audio was AudioReview - anyone remember the AR forums? (http://web.archive.org/web/20010901005935/http://www.audioreview.com:80/message/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcboard.cgi?az=show_thread&omm=6&om=1200&forum=DCForumID10) Don't you miss that hot Audioreview chick?
At some time in 2001, Norb left AR and formed the now defunct AudioUtopia (http://web.archive.org/web/20011116192524/http://www.audioutopia.com/). He then found a dream job and left the site basically to die a slow and agonic death...
During that time, our fearless leader created Audiokarma.org - The homepage sure looked different (http://web.archive.org/web/20020726044411/http://audiokarma.org/) ... the forums also were a lot
smaller (http://web.archive.org/web/20021205223654/audiokarma.org/forums/).
It has grown to include brands which have a good following but not much coverage in other places: Exclusively Sansui (http://audiokarma.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=39),
Pioneer Audio (http://audiokarma.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=90), Infinity (http://audiokarma.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=129), Klipsch (http://audiokarma.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=131).
We have also evolved, taking into account cables, interconnects and other system fine tuning Thinking Out Loud (http://audiokarma.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=131).
We would like to thank all of you, as this site means nothing without members like you.
Also just because it's AK's birthday, I thought we deserve a little Audiophile Porn (http://www.engadget.com/2006/06/06/125-000-record-player-runs-on-mars-rover-motor/)
So here's to another year! :beerchug:

Wow! Great post ckelly! As a relatively new member I really didn't know about the history of AK. I learn something new every day here on AK. Since I am constantly amazed not only at the quantity but at the quality of the information that is freely posted by AK members, I naturally assumed that the site had been around for the same 30 or 40 years that the now vintage gear has been around................. Oh, :scratch2: , .............. I guess not.
Happy Birthday AK and a sincere thanks to AK members and especially everyone behind the scenes that make it all possible! :thmbsp:

I had no idea. Thanks for the info and the caches.
EDIT: I guess AK was about 3 months old when I joined. I seem to recall seeing a post on AA by Pete (the Bully, that is) announcing it. I think that's how I wandered on by...
EDIT^2: perhaps it was this post?

Wow! Talk about a trip down Memory Lane! I remember Audio Utopia and Harmonic Discord (I was a member there too). Time certainly flies by when you're having fun.

As a newbie, let me congratulate all original members. The community here would be ...different, and probably less generous, less well informed, more opinionated, and less willing to cheer, help and cry if y'all had not made the choices to be different. I have found a home here, and hope I contribute enough to bear the responsibility of membership.

Happy 4rth Birthday!!!
4 years and 14,000 members (and that's after clearing out some of the "one-posters" who never came back, right?). The rate of gowth is accelerating, so I propose some kind of a contest in which we have one month (till July 18) to predict the number of members at the 5th birthday. Winner gets...ummm... a prize!
If our admins like the idea, fire up a thread, pick the "prize" and we're off!

Nacdok said it well, this is the place to be, thanks to all the great folks who have made this site what it is, and continue to contribute their time and skills to keep it the best damn audio forum on the web!

I really can't express how proud and happy I am to be a member here at AK. I have learned so so much in the roughly 1.5 years that I have been a member here, I have made some wonderful friends, and had a terrific time. And hell, I've even put together a half-decent stereo largely thanks to AK and all the wonderful people here. Thanks to mods, admin, and everyone else to strives to make this place the best place on the net. May the future bring many more years of health, good times and audio fun. Here here!!! :beerchug:

Hiya Founder/Administrators/Moderators and all Members (new and old alike),
I am honored to be able to say a few words here in the occasion of Audio Karma's 4th birth anniversary. I am impressed firstly of the Members and secondly, the Moderators. It is said that you cannot judge a book by it's cover and so here the content of the Audio Karma's book are the members; who are ever willing to cooperate in making this place a meeting point for our various needs.
The Moderators have been very forgiving; given the various eccentricities of the members, and I as a member can be very demanding too (heheheheh); but, they have been patient and have done their jobs excellently. They are too; deserving of praise.
This place cannot serve it's purpose effectively without the presence of such luminaries of the audio-engineering world like Mr. Pustelniakr, Mr. Echo Wars and many others whom I have not yet had the pleasure of being acquainted.
And the all of us are grateful to the Founder of Audio Karma for bringing the pieces together!
God Bless :-)

Happy 4th to Audiokarma.org, and thanks to all that make it (and have made it) possible.
As a relative newcomer to AK, it's the many helpful and supportive members that have been in large part responsible for my rekindled interest in what was once "audio" in my younger years and is NOW "vintage audio"...hmm, I guess that makes me vintage too!
I've also found a home for my interests in radio, shortwave broadcasting and a chance to post the occasional essay of sorts in the Off-Topic Forum.
Now, if we can just do something about that shrinking bank account...aw, what the heck!
Here's to this anniversary, the next and beyond...thanks!

Happy Birthday!

4 years old? Huh. That's about the same time of my resurgent interest in vintage audio. No connection I'm sure, but a strange coincidence none the less....
This site is a real treat for me. Thanks to all who make it possible.

I've been around since the very beginning, that is, when everyone used hang out at the vintage forums over at Audio Review. Jeez, that was 6 years ago. At least. Anyway, I sure am glad Tim decided to start up this site because Audio Utopia was certainly crashing and burning at that time. And I'm equally happy that AK took off and prospered.
Cheers and happy birthday to AK.

Happy 4th one AK. Meandered in here a while back and have visited many times over and over again. What a great forum and friendly group of audio enthusiasts.
To the moderators who do a great job, and all those people behind the scenes that keep AK up and running:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY,
As you can see I am not a big poster here but I have been lurking for a couple of years now, I feel I know all the regulars, though I am sure no one knows me. I have hung out at all the other audio sites but this is the best. Heck where else can one learn about a 1951 Magnavox consol TV!
I really enjoy the lack of attitude and all the technical folks around are always patient and helpfull.
Here's to many more years!
Maybe it's time to give a Birthday present at the donation page.
All the best
